DEFINITIONS In these Criteria, the following words have the following respective meanings: “Policy” means the Selection Procedures Policy adopted by the Board of PA from time to time that governs the selection of athletes to Paddle Australia Teams. “Class” means K1 Men, C1 Men, C2 Mixed, K1 Women and C1 Women. “Criteria” means this Selection Criteria Supplement. “PA” Means Paddle Australia Ltd, the recognised governing body for Canoeing in Australia “Minimum Performance means the minimum performance standard required by PA for Standard” selection to a national team in addition to any other criteria as set out in clause 5 of this Criteria. “Team” means the 2020 Paddle Australia Canoe Slalom Team to compete at the 2020 ICF Canoe Slalom World Cups Events Words not defined in these Criteria have the meaning ascribed to them in the Constitution of PA or the Policy unless a contrary meaning appears from the context. 2. SELECTION AIMS To give context to the following policy and processes, the aims of the PA High Performance Program for the 2020 season are as follows: a) provide the optimal preparation and support for athletes selected onto the 2020 Olympic Games team; b) provide opportunities for identified ‘Reserve’ (next ranked athlete based on the Olympic Games Nomination criteria) athletes to maintain competitiveness prior to the Olympic Games; and c) develop athletes for the 2024 cycle 3. SELECTION PROCEDURES 3.1. SELECTION PANEL In accordance with the Policy, the Selection Panel members are: • Shaun Stephens / National Performance Director (chair) • Sarah Forsythe / Independant - Retired Senior Athlete • Dave Crosbee / Independant • Mike Druce / Paddle Australia Coach. To be eligible for consideration for selection to the Team, athletes must comply with the Policy. 3.2.2. Request entry by written confirmation to the Performance Operations Manager ([email protected]) to each selection competition for the purpose of entering the athlete into the ICF Entry system no later than 16 days prior to the beginning of each selection competition (14 January for Oceania and 4 February for Australian Open). 3.2.3. Athletes must be born after 31st December 2005 to be eligible for consideration for Team selection. 3.2.4. To be eligible for consideration for selection under criteria that incorporates a specific age category, the age will be determined as of 31 December, 2020. Specifically, athletes must be born on or after 1 January, 1997 to be eligible for U23 selection, and, on or after 1 January, 1993 to be eligible for U27 selection under the relevant age criteria. 3.2.5. Athletes must have nominated for the Team under clause 3.3 of this Criteria. 3.3. TEAM NOMINATION 3.3.1. The competitions for which the Team will be selected for in 2020 are: a) 2020 ICF Canoe Slalom World Cups; b) other ICF competitions as may be determined by PA. 3.3.2. Athletes will be required to nominate for selection to the Team. The process of nomination will form part of the entry process for the selection competitions listed in clause 3.4 of this Criteria. 3.3.3. By nominating for selection to the Team, athletes agree to comply with: (i) this Criteria; and (ii) the Policy. 3.4. SELECTION COMPETITIONS The following competitions will be utilised for considering athletes for selection to the Team: a) International: The four International Events listed as part of the Olympic Games Nomination Criteria. b) Domestic: (i) Oceania Championships, Wero, NZ (1-3 February, 2020) (ii) Australian Open, Penrith NSW, (21–23 February, 2020). SELECTION CRITERIA & PROCESS Athletes may be selected to the Team in each respective Class, up to the maximum number of quota places (3) awarded to Australia by the ICF for each individual Class, as follows: 4.1. STAGE 1: SELECTION PROCESS – OLYMPIC GAMES TEAM The selection criteria related to this clause is published on the PA website under ‘Tokyo Canoe Slalom Olympic Games Nomination Policy’. 4.1.1 Athletes selected in each Class according to the ‘Tokyo Canoe Slalom Olympic Games Nomination Policy’ will be automatically selected for World Cups 1, 2, 4 and 5. 4.1.2 The 2nd ranked athlete in each Class according to the ‘Tokyo Canoe Slalom Olympic Games Nomination Policy’ will be automatically selected for the first 3 World Cups. 4.2.
