The TinCaps have averaged 5.0 runs per game at home and 3.6 per game on the road. ORNELAS ON BASE: Tirso Ornelas’ 27-game on-base streak came to an end Thursday night @ Lake County. The on-base streak was the 2nd longest active streak in the MWL at the time, and it stands as the longest such streak for a TinCap this season. (The longest in the league this year: 31 games, Michael Beltre, Dayton.) From May 24-June 27, Ornelas hit .297 with a .425 OBP. He had 6 doubles, 3 triples, 4 homers, and 16 RBIs during the run. Maybe most impressive, he walked more times (19) than he struck out (16). PADRES ON DECK: Friday, the TinCaps and Padres agreed on a 2-year extension of their Player Development Contract (PDC) through the 2020 season. This will stretch the affiliation between the organizations to 22 years continuing what is already the longest-lasting Minor League Baseball affiliation in San Diego’s franchise history. Padres Executive Vice President/General Manager A.J. Preller and TinCaps President Mike Nutter held a press conference at Parkview Field on Friday to announce the extension. This season is the 20th year of affiliation between Fort Wayne and San Diego, going back to 1999.
