Newsletter Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, Kansas, Mexico October 2017 Amarillo Civic Center Complex Welcomes New Event Supervisor Amanda Gonzalez-Flores joined the Amarillo Civic Center Complex in August as an Event Supervisor. Amanda is a current student at West Texas A & M University, working toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Performance. Amanda worked in retail before coming to the Amarillo Civic Center Complex and has worked seasonally as an usher for the local production of TEXAS Outdoor Musical Drama. Amanda has always been interested in the entertainment industry and the details of what goes on behind the scenes. She hopes to grow in the venue industry and learn more about the management aspect of staging events. Bob Reykers Promoted to Sales Director of the Fort Smith Convention Center Bob Reykers has been promoted to Sales Director of the Fort Smith Convention Center! He replaced Jeremy Richey who recently resigned. Among other things, Bob will have oversight of FSCC’s overall sales and marketing efforts. Bob has been FSCC’s Events Coordinator for the past few years. In that role, he regularly was placed in a position of selling rentable spaces and services to both new and returning clients. Bob welcomed this responsibility and opportunity, and has excelled at it since. Prior to serving as our Events Coordinator, Bob was a key piece of our Operations Team, serving as a Building Engineer. This role helped Bob build a solid and vast knowledge of FSCC as a venue, which has proven to be instrumental in his notable success coordinating and selling events. -

Právě vydali album Tres Hombres a já s nimi dělal rozhovor – se všemi třemi – pro nezávislý plátek jménem Los Angeles Free Press. Jakmile jsem vešel do jejich pokoje v ho- telu Continental Hyatt House – nechvalně to proslulém příbyt- ku mnoha rockových hvězd sedmdesátých let, který byl bohužel před mnoha lety zbourán – byl jsem přijat s pravou jižanskou po- hostinností, takže jsem se hned cítil v pohodě a klidu. Billy patřil mezi nejmilejší, nejzábavnější a nejbystřejší lidi, na něž jsem kdy narazil, a také díky tomu jsem si ho od první chvíle zamiloval. Během následujících let jsme se ještě mnohokrát sešli a v této před- mluvě uvedu rozhovor, který se odehrál zhruba šest let po našem prvním setkání. Podle mě právě toto vyprávění nejlépe ilustru- je, jaká kapela byla a je a jací jsou její členové po lidské stránce. Asi vám nemusím říkat, jak důležitou roli ZZ Top sehráli v šíření blues mezi širší vrstvy posluchačů. Billy Gibbons patřil a stále pa- tří mezi nejunikátnější a nejtvořivější kytaristy, kteří kdy drželi šestistrunku v ruce. O tom již napsali mnozí jiní. Ne, já vám nechci vyprávět o Billy Gibbonsovi, Franku Beardovi a Dusty Hillovi z hlediska historie, zvolím spíše osobní pohled. -

Kingsmen drummer Lynn Easton, vocalist Jack Ely and guitarist Mike Mitchell recorded “Louie Louie” as a demo for Ta cruise ship gig. Ely quit shortly thereafter. This month the UK’s Mojo Magazine selected the Kingsmen’s “Louie Louie” #1 on their Ultimate Jukebox of The 100 Singles You Must Own. April 15th RCA Victor releases the new ZZ Top album “Mescalero” followed by the “Beer Drinkers & Hell Rais- ers 2003 Tour” beginning April 25th. Les Paul – The Complete Interview The following interview was originally published in The Absolute Sound, spring 1992, in conjunction with the release of the Capitol CD box set, The Legend and the Legacy. It is offered here in its entirety. Frank Doris: When did you first get involved with recording? Les Paul: I actually got into recording right at the very beginning. It all started in the late twenties...it seemed like the harmonica, the guitar, the piano, everything came at me at once. The crystal set, the broadcast stations... FD: There was a moment when I was three or four years old, when I first heard a guitar on the radio and didn’t know what it was, and I thought, “Oh my G-d, what is that sound!” What was the initial impetus where you realized that not only did you have to play the guitar, but that you wanted to get a certain sound? LP: Well I wasn’t happy with the acoustical sound of the instrument. I heard what was happening on the string itself, without the influence of the guitar body. And I knew that when you plucked the string that that was the sound that I wanted, and so analyzing it I strung up the string on a railroad track, then on a piece of wood...then on the guitar itself, and I said, “now look. The guitar alters it. It enhances it. It changes it. It distorts it. It makes it something different than it originally was. What I would like to do is go back and build the guitar starting with the string itself. -
