He first addressed members in September 2000, during his benefit year. ADRIAN NIGEL AYMES was born in Southampton on 4 June 1964, and attended Bellemoor School. He came late to first-class cricket. He joined the Hampshire staff when 21 years of age in 1986 but did not gain a regular place until he finally displaced Bob Parks some four years later. He gave notice of what was to follow on his first-class debut against Surrey at The Oval in 1987. With Hampshire in trouble, he battled to 58 not out. Subsequently, no player in the first-class game during the 1990s sold his wicket more dearly. He was undefeated in a high proportion of his innings, which spoke volumes for his technique, temperament and sheer cussedness. With Robin Smith, he became the beating heart and consciousness of the Hampshire batting. If he took root and dug in, Hampshire were generally assured of a competitive total. All of his eight centuries were made in adversity. Of all Hampshire’s wicket-keepers, only his successor, Nic Pothas, has a higher batting average. He was a passionately proud professional, and never gave less than his best. He was fortunate to keep wicket to two of the genuinely great bowlers in the history of the game. At the start of his career, he stood back to the incomparable Malcolm Marshall; latterly, he kept to the unique Shane Warne.

    SURREY CRICKET FOUNDATION 2017 ANNUAL REVIEW Director of Cricket Participation Paul Taylor looks back on a year of change and great achievement right across the county. 2017 has been another incredibly busy year for the Surrey Cricket Foundation (SCF). In February, the Cricket Participation team restructured giving promotions to four very deserving individuals. Vicki Howard, Gavin Reynolds, Mark Babb and Harry Ellis were all promoted to Cricket Participation Officers with Vicki and Gavin taking on the lead for women & girls cricket and disabilities cricket respectively. Mark took the lead on our vast school competitions programme whilst Harry led on all events held at The Kia Oval. More importantly this gave us more resources in terms of club support. With Kim Price and Chevy Green also being club facing, we now have six members of staff working directly with our clubs, with Simon Hards taking on a coordinating role within club development. They have been ably supported by our community coaches and our administration team and whilst there are always continual challenges for us in terms of priorities, we have enjoyed some incredible successes. Our School’s programme, supported by Chance to Shine, has seen the game introduced to over 23,500 children in 2017. Across the Street projects, we again excelled in terms of delivery and the number of attendees. An achievement that has been highlighted by Chance to Shine across the country. Schools Day this year was held at the Royal London one-day match between Surrey and Kent and we saw just under 5,000 children enjoy the experience at The Kia Oval.

We are pleased to see Somerset at the top of the County table after 2 wins against Kent and Nottinghamshire. It was good to see Dom Bess play in the Kent RL one day game and the box was well attended with about 30 attendees. Again another fine victory for SCCC. Now the floodlights are installed please check start times as some games start later. Please check availability as well and let David know of your intent to visit. Vitality blast T20. The box will not be available on Friday 26th July v Hampshire and Friday 16th August v Gloucestershire. We do have some T20 tickets for these 2 fixtures available to Box members. Please contact David Dibb should you want one. These will be distributed on a first come basis. ICC World Cup. The box will not be available for the three ICC world cup matches. Warwickshire box Chad Murrin has arranged a cricket exchange with Warwickshire CCC, they have invited OB box members to visit on the 19th and 20th August (1st/2nd days of county match v Somerset) with access to a box facility – we will reciprocate by offering a day at Taunton to Warwickshire CCC.
