Photoshopping in advertising is nothing new — but it’s usually to enhance curves, not flatten them. Source (April 2012) People magazine says cover is a fake (December 2011) A tumblr called lourtneycove posted these before and after photos of Perry’s cover. While the post has since been taken down, it was reblogged sufficiently that we were able to pull both images — both of which look like they’ve had some alteration done to them. But there’s a stark difference in the first image and the second one. Notice how Perry’s breasts have been lifted, how the skin on her stomach and face have been smoothed over. Her fingers have been repositioned and there’s still something weird going on with her hair. Her right leg must have really angered the people who did the retouching, because the thigh was slimmed considerably and the sock she was wearing has been digitally taken away. Source Duchess Kate hardly seems a candidate to have her figure doctored to look even thinner in a photograph. But an Italian women’s fashion magazine has admitted it inadvertently did just that in a cover photo of the royal bride. Responding to a complaint that the May 9 special collector’s issue of Grazia magazine showed The Duchess of Cambridge looking artificially slimmer, Britain’s Press Complaints Commission investigated the magazine’s process for the Kate cover photo and found that indeed, Kate’s already wispy waist was whittled down further. Source Madonna’s Dolce & Gabbana Pics Pre-Photoshop Some images purported to be unretouched photographs from the Spring/Summer Dolce & Gabbana campaign starring Madonna have popped up online. It certainly looks as if the photographs taken were retouched extensively; in the ad, her nose is slimmer, her jaw is not as wide, her neck is smooth, the definition in her arms has been smoothed away, and any visible veins in her hands or arms have been removed. Source: Popeater L’Oreal denies lightening Beyonce’s skin in ad August 7, 2008 NEW YORK (AP) — Cosmetics giant L’Oreal is denying it lightened Beyonce’s skin tone in an ad. “We highly value our relationship with Ms. Knowles. It is categorically untrue that L’Oreal Paris altered Ms. Knowles’ features or skin tone in the campaign for Feria hair color,” the Paris-based company said in a statement sent to the Associated Press through the singer’s representative. The ad is in the current edition of Elle magazine. L’Oreal, the maker of Garnier hair care and Lancome cosmetics, is the world’s largest cosmetics maker. A representative for Beyonce said the singer would have no comment beyond L’Oreal’s statement. Beyonce has been a spokeswoman for L’Oreal since 2001. From Switched (August 5, 2008) We are so over two things right now. One is the discussion of how much People Magazine paid for the Pitt- Jolie-clan cover shot (more than $14 mil, in case you managed not to hear). The other is the constant analysis of Photoshop intervention in magazine covers. Now a few articles that cover our two least favorite things are making the rounds of the Web. Said articles speculate that MAYBE the babies aren’t as cute as they seem on the cover. Was the People Magazine Did People’s Photoshoppers PASTE ON Cover Doctored? baby Vivienne’s smile? Maybe they did, if the evidence involving a citation from Parenting mag, which alleges that “babies don’t smile from external stimulation until 2-4 months,” is enough to prove the point. The articles also speculate that maybe the babies were just born weeks ago, which is why they’re able to smile, and that Brangelina just didn’t tell us. Either way, the celebrity couple is lying, it would seem. Well maybe the li’l ones were burping. Or maybe the photographers were just really patient. Web site claims that this one is also PhotoShopped big time…like is she screwing her head onto her body? As our bros over at Boing Boing point out, MC looks “cobbled together from a dumpsterful of broken gynoids, unscrewing [her] own head.” June 2008 from Gawker.com Entertainment Weekly‘s Q&A with Angelina Jolie is unremarkable—except for the remarkably unflattering photograph the magazine uses for its cover. Now it could be that EWwanted an image that matched in spirit the “candid interview” touted in the coverline. But I thought the Hollywood publicists demanded photo approval when negotiating interviews—even when they’re pushing a movie such as Jolie’s forthcoming Wanted (watch a chase from the movie, here). On the EW cover, the screen beauty’s chin juts forward; lighting from above has left a shadow under her nose; the pores haven’t been smoothed out in retouching; and there’s a mole on her forehead.

"I've been on a bit of a bender after 9/11," she admits. "I've got a lot of s--- in me. I weigh 147 pounds." Which is why she's checking into the We Care colonic spa for five days of fasting. Slumped low in the seat, the 37-year-old actress and lead singer of Hole is wearing baggy faded jeans, a brown pilled sweater, and Birkenstock sandals, her pink toenails twinkling with rhinestones. On her head is a wool knit hat - 1 - that looks like something she found on the street. Last night she sat for three hours while her auburn hair extensions were unglued and cut out. "See?" Love says, pulling the cap off. "I look like a Dr. Seuss character on chemo." She does. Her hair is short and tufty and sticking out in all directions. It's a disaster. Love smiles a sad, self-conscious smile and covers up again. Lighting a cigarette, she asks, "Why are we doing this story? I don't have a record or a movie to promote.

  • The Angelina Jolie Effect: How High Celebrity
Evans et al. Breast Cancer Research 2014, 16:442 http://breast-cancer-research.com/content/16/5/442 RESEARCH ARTICLE Open Access The Angelina Jolie effect: how high celebrity profile can have a major impact on provision of cancer related services D Gareth R Evans1,2,14*†, Julian Barwell3†, Diana M Eccles4, Amanda Collins4, Louise Izatt5, Chris Jacobs5, Alan Donaldson6, Angela F Brady7, Andrew Cuthbert8, Rachel Harrison9, Sue Thomas10, Anthony Howell1, The FH02 Study Group, RGC teams, Zosia Miedzybrodzka11,12 and Alex Murray13 Abstract Introduction: It is frequent for news items to lead to a short lived temporary increase in interest in a particular health related service, however it is rare for this to have a long lasting effect. In 2013, in the UK in particular, there has been unprecedented publicity in hereditary breast cancer, with Angelina Jolie’s decision to have genetic testing for the BRCA1 gene and subsequently undergo risk reducing mastectomy (RRM), and a pre-release of the NICE guidelines on familial breast cancer in January and their final release on 26th June. The release of NICE guidelines created a lot of publicity over the potential for use of chemoprevention using tamoxifen or raloxifene. However, the longest lasting news story was the release of details of film actress Angelina Jolie’s genetic test and surgery. Methods: To assess the potential effects of the ‘Angelina Jolie’ effect, referral data specific to breast cancer family history was obtained from around the UK for the years 2012 and 2013. A consortium of over 30 breast cancer family history clinics that have contributed to two research studies on early breast surveillance were asked to participate as well as 10 genetics centres.

  • Timesup for Sexual Harassment
#TimesUp for Sexual Harassment By News Correspondents Syna and Naila Celebrities worldwide have been supporting the #TimesUp campaign. #TimesUp is a campaign founded on the 1st of January 2018, by a small group of Hollywood celebrities. It is a movement fighting sexual harassment in the workplace. #TimesUp started in response to the #MeToo campaign that came from the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment epidemic. However, it was also brought up by a letter published in the Times in November 2017 from the Alianza Nacional de Campesinas. The letter claimed of their experience of sexual harassment among female farmworkers. It is said to have been written on behalf of 700,000 of them in the US. Harvey Weinstein, 65, has been accused of sexual harassment in the industry. According to the BBC more than 50 women have accused Weinstein ranging from rape to sexual harassment. Some of these women are: Lupita Nyong’o and Cara Delevingne, who both claimed that Weinstein made them feel uncomfortable. Despite all of the allegations Harvey Weinstein still continues to deny any of the actions. People have been standing up to this in many different ways. • Hayden Panettiere and Wladimir Klitschko Reunite for a Taco Date
Hayden Panettiere and Wladimir Klitschko Reunite for a Taco Date By Meghan Fitzgerald Could it be? Hayden Panettiere and Wladimir Klitschko are giving one another a second chance at love! An onlooker told People, “The duo was spotted together enjoying lunch at Taco Beach Shack in Hollywood on Monday.” The Nashville actress and Ukrainian heavyweight boxing champion have been seen together since the beginning of January, reports UsMagazine.com. After their split in May of 2011, they never really lost contact. They held a steady courtship and is now giving love a second chance! How do you know when to give an old flame a second chance? Cupid’s Advice: Second chances are challenging for some people. They don’t want to be hurt over again, they don’t want to be in a vulnerable state by getting back together. In certain scenarios, it is okay to rekindle the flame. With these situations, you have to be completely sure that giving a second chance is the right thing to do. It is a strong possibility that you think you should give a second chance however, in reality it’s not. Cupid has some advice: 1. They’ve changed: If the relationship ended because your partner ended up changing from when you first began to date, they can change again. Although you may not want to believe that they’ve changed because of past reasons, believe it! People change! If they change for the better, why not give them a second chance? If your relationship was golden before they changed, and you want that again, test the water and go for it.

  • Filmic Tomboy Narrative and Queer Feminist Spectatorship
UNHAPPY MEDIUM: FILMIC TOMBOY NARRATIVE AND QUEER FEMINIST SPECTATORSHIP A Dissertation Presented to the Faculty of the Graduate School of Cornell University in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy by Lynne Stahl May 2015 © 2015 Lynne Stahl ALL RIGHTS RESERVED UNHAPPY MEDIUM: FILMIC TOMBOY NARRATIVE AND QUEER FEMINIST SPECTATORSHIP Lynne Stahl, Ph.D. Cornell University, 2015 ABSTRACT This dissertation investigates the ways in which American discourses of gender, sexuality, and emotion structure filmic narrative and the ways in which filmic narrative informs those discourses in turn. It approaches this matter through the figure of the tomboy, vastly undertheorized in literary scholarship, and explores the nodes of resistance that film form, celebrity identity, and queer emotional dispositions open up even in these narratives that obsessively domesticate their tomboy characters and pair them off with male love interests. The first chapter theorizes a mode of queer feminist spectatorship, called infelicitous reading, around the incoherently “happy” endings of tomboy films and obligatorily tragic conclusions of lesbian films; the second chapter links the political and sexual ambivalences of female-centered sports films to the ambivalent results of Title IX; and the third chapter outlines a type of queer reproductivity and feminist paranoia that emerges cumulatively in Jodie Foster’s body of work. Largely indebted to the work of Judith Butler, Lauren Berlant, and Sara Ahmed, this project engages with past and present problematics in the fields of queer theory, feminist film criticism, and affect studies—questions of nondichotomous genders, resistant spectatorship and feminist potential within linear narrative, and the chronological cues that dominant ideology builds into our understandings of gender, sexuality, narrative, and emotions.

Series roles include “Dynasty,” “Nightmare Café,” “Oh Baby” and “Steven King’s Kingdom Hospital.” Recently, he has been featured on such programs as “Entourage,” “Nip/Tuck,” “Without a Trace” and “CSI Miami.” On stage, Coleman starred on Broadway in Bill Cain’s Stand-Up Tragedy in a part he originated at the Mark Taper Forum. He was nominated for a Los Angeles Drama Critics’ Circle Award for his performance. He reprised the role in San Francisco at the Marines Memorial Theater and in Connecticut at The Hartford Stage Company before opening in New York.
