Original Article Race analyses among Winter Olympic sliding sports: A cross-sectional study of the 2018/2019 World Cups and World Championships MARKUS WILLIAMS 1 Department of Sports Performance, United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, Lake Placid, United States of America ABSTRACT Studies about the three Olympic sliding sports are sparse, little is known other than factors related to start performance. Therefore, this study aimed to add to the current literature by analysing the race characteristics of the nine different events. A non-experimental retrospective method was applied to analyse all races of the 2018/2019 season. A total of 3371 race trials sampled across the sports of bobsleigh (n = 1105), luge (n = 1401) and skeleton (n = 865). Split rankings were correlated to finish rankings using Pearson product-moment correlation to analyse the relationship of sectional rankings and race outcome throughout the race. The results exhibited sequentially increasing correlation coefficients in all events. Yet, there were distinctive characteristics differentiating the sports. Bobsleigh illustrated correlations coefficients that at a minimum were very large (r ≥ .71) among all split rankings. Luge and skeleton depicted lower correlations for split 1 (r = .30 – .68) and thereafter substantially increasing as the race progressed. Thus, sliding performance can potentially have a greater impact in luge and skeleton than in bobsleigh. The differentiating race characteristics show the need for different training methods. International Journal of Entrepreneurial Knowledge Issue 1/2016, Volume 4 DOI: 10.1515/ijek-2016-0009 THE COMPARISON OF COMPETITIVE BALANCE BETWEEN SUPER RUGBY (SANZAR) AND ENGLISH PREMIERSHIP RUGBY: A CASE STUDY FROM 1996-2014 SEASON OR NOT ATTRACTIVE NO PEOPLE NO MONEY Robert KUCHAR1and Andy MARTIN2 ABSTRACT Most sports are attractive because they are almost unpredictable. The more the competitiveness of league teams, the harder to predict the games and as a result, that league will be more attractive. Message is: more attractive leagues= bigger audience= more attractive for sponsorship= more money in sport. Competitive balance (CB) refers to the balance in sport capabilities of teams. The aim of this paper was to compare the competitive balance between Super Rugby league named SANZAR, which consist of three nations (New Zealand, Australia and South Africa) and English Premiership Rugby League in 1996-2014 seasons and compare them. The data were secondary and collected from the final tables. It was used five models in this study: the three-club and five-club concentration ratio (C3 and C5) and C3/C5 index of competitive balance (C3ICB/C5ICB) were used to analyse the data. The less the index C3ICB/C5ICB and C3/C5 are, the more competitive balance is, and conversely. Standard deviation of game results, the ratio of actual and ideal standard deviation wins, numbers of winners and a placement in the k-th place. The results showed that the Salary cap in Premiership League does not work very effectively and the competitive balance is in last few seasons still worst and worst. -

Sportsmen and women from various fields attend start of centenary activities in Munich. Munich. 2016 sees the BMW Group celebrate its centenary under the motto THE NEXT 100 YEARS. The official celebrations started on 7th March in Munich with the big Centenary Event in the Olympic Hall. Among the 2,000 invited guests were many athletes, who have enjoyed success around the world in sports supported by BMW. They were there in person when BMW’s pioneering vision vehicle, the BMW VISION NEXT 100, was unveiled. Prior to this, a multimedia show had taken guests through the key moments in the BMW Group’s history and presented the company’s interpretations of future premium mobility. Among those representing BMW Motorsport were the eight DTM drivers Marco Wittmann (GER), Timo Glock (GER), Bruno Spengler (CAN), Augusto Farfus (BRA), Maxime Martin (BEL), Tom Blomqvist (GBR), António Félix da Costa (POR) and Martin Tomczyk (GER), as well as BMW Brand Ambassador Alex Zanardi (ITA). As well as many other works drivers and team principals, BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt and his predecessors Mario Theissen and Jochen Neerpasch, the first managing director of BMW Motorsport GmbH, also witnessed the Centenary Event at first hand. The same went for many other well-known protagonists from BMW’s successful motorsport history – including Gerhard Berger (AUT), Pierluigi Martini (ITA), Harald Grohs (GER), Johnny Cecotto (VEN), Roberto Ravaglia (ITA) and Paul Rosche (GER).
