Språk: Svenska Antal sidor: 43 Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur framställningen av femininitet och sexualitet hos unga tjejer porträtteras och hur denna porträttering kan kopplas till myter i samhället gällande femininitet och sexualitet. Detta med utgångspunkt i frågeställningarna: ”Vilka myter om unga tjejers femininitet och sexualitet framträder i filmen Snyggingar utifrån huvudkaraktären Amy?” och ”Hur iscensätts dessa myter i filmen och vilka betydelser får det för hur unga tjejers femininitet och sexualitet porträtteras?”. Studien kommer att använda sig av en kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Studiens teoretiska ramverk består av begrepp inom den feministiska teorin vilka är objektifieringsteorin, Lolita, den manliga blicken och den kvinnliga blicken. Ramverket består dessutom av semiotiska analysverktyg som bland annat denotation, konnotation och myt. Den semiotiska och kvalitativa innehållsanalysen utfördes på totalt fyra scener från filmen Snyggingar från 2020. Resultatet visade att filmens porträttering av karaktärerna, kameravinklarna, mise–en–scéne och hyperboler används som verktyg för att belysa problematiken kring objektifiering och sexualisering av unga tjejer. Filmen åskådliggör utifrån framställningen av karaktärerna även de krav och förväntningar som ställs på unga tjejer utifrån samhällets normer och värderingar. Amy porträtteras med en nästintill konstant strävan efter att nå den kvinnliga femininiteten och sexualiteten men hennes barnsliga beteende återspeglas även till viss del. Language: Swedish Pages: 43 The purpose and aim of the study ”Let's rank ourselves” are to examine how the representation of femininity and sexuality in young girls is portrayed and how this portrayal can be linked to myths in society regarding femininity and sexuality. This is based on the questions: ”What myths about young girls' femininity and sexuality appear in the film Cuties based on the main character Amy? and ”How are these myths staged in the film and what significance does it have for how young girls' femininity and sexuality are portrayed?” The study will use a qualitative analysis of the content. The theoretical framework of the study consists of concepts within the feminist theory which are the objectification theory, Lolita, the male gaze and the female gaze. The framework also consists of semiotic analysis tools such as denotation, connotation and myth. The semiotic and qualitative analysis of the content was performed on a total of four scenes from the movie Cuties from 2020. The results showed that the films' portrayal of the characters, camera angles, mise–en–scéne and hyperbole are used as tools to shed light on the problems surrounding the objectification and sexualization of young girls. Based on the portrayal of the characters, the film also illustrates the demands and expectations placed on young girls based on the norms and values in our society. Amy is portrayed with an almost constant striving to achieve female femininity and sexuality but her childish behaviour is shown to some extent. Inledning Tonåren är en tid där många börjar konstruera sin identitet och försöker att hitta sig själva, vilket inte är en helt oproblematisk process. Vi lever idag i ett samhälle som präglas av patriarkala strukturer som leder till att det ställs krav och förväntningar på hur man bör agera och även uttrycka sin identitet. I flera länder befinner sig många tjejer mellan olika kulturer vilket även det påverkar konstruktionen av sin identitet. Å ena sidan växer de upp i religiösa, konservativa och patriarkala samhällen samtidigt som de å andra sidan blir påträffade av sociala medier där kvinnor konstant objektifieras och sexualiseras. Unga tjejer har därför hög press på sig men även begränsningar att anpassa sig efter när det kommer till att utforska och konstruera sin femininitet och sexualitet. Den ojämställdhet som råder leder även till att kvinnokroppen objektifieras och sexualiseras i olika sammanhang, vilket även det påverkar tjejers möjligheter till att uttrycka sin identitet. However, aside from addressing how these developments allow for more complex serialized streaming television, not much work has approached concerns of specific genres that fall under the field of digital streaming. How do emergent and encouraged modes of viewing across various SVOD platforms re-shape how audiences affectively experience and interact with genre and generic texts? What happens to collective audience discourses as the majority of viewers’ situated consumption of new serial content becomes increasingly accelerated, adaptable, and individualized? Given the range and diversity of genres and fandoms, which often intersect and overlap despite their current fragmentation across geographies, platforms, and lines of access, why might it be pertinent to reconfigure genre itself as a site or node of affective experience and interactive, collective production? Abstract When Netflix launched in April 1998, Internet video was in its infancy. Eighteen years later, Netflix has developed into the first truly global Internet TV network. Many books have been written about the five broadcast networks – NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, and the CW – and many about the major cable networks – HBO, CNN, MTV, Nickelodeon, just to name a few – and this is the fitting time to undertake a detailed analysis of how Netflix, as the preeminent Internet TV networks, has come to be. As viewers observe the swearing-in he asks in a delicious Southern drawl, “Centuries from now, when people watch this footage, who will they see smiling just at the edge of the frame?” Then Underwood comes into frame again. He’s just a few rows away from the president. He gives the camera a casual wave. Underwood, having been spurned in his bid to become secretary of state, is on a quest for power that’s just as suspenseful as anything on television. But his story will unspool not on TV but on Netflix, the streaming video service that is investing hundreds of millions of dollars in original programming.     www-old.carseywolf.ucsb.edu Carsey-Wolf Center at UC Santa Barbara By Karen Petruska 6-8 minutes The Flow Conference of Television and New Media, held at the University of Texas at Austin on September 10-12, hosted “core conversations” with media industry executives as part of a larger effort to innovate the conference format. Among the topics discussed over the three-day event were the history of television and the ways new technologies are transforming the industry. For the scholars in the room, these conversations produced insights into how the industry self-theorizes its achievements and challenges, the sort of access that provides material for more critical reflections in the subsequent panel discussions and reflections. The first core conversation, moderated by former Peabody Award director Horace Newcomb, focused on the history of television and featured former Los Angeles Timescritic Howard Rosenberg, director Michael Zinberg, and writer David Milch. Newcomb described the session as “the old man’s panel,” and some audience members commented on Twitter and in a subsequent analysis of the conversation that it was also a panel populated exclusively with white men. Of course, historically white men have dominated the executive ranks of media industries, and these trends persist today (in film, in television, and in film criticism, though the world of TV criticism is seeing more parity in terms of gender, if not race). The panel’s optics, therefore, speak to broader problems but nevertheless pose a notable challenge to future organizers should they keep this format as part of the conference. The panel largely celebrated television’s achievements, from the boldness of Norman Lear’s Tandem programs in the 1970s to Modern Family’s “normalizing” portrait of gay marriage today.

The taboo of sexualizing children is culturally specific. George Bataille, in his book Erotism: Death and Sensuality, regards all taboos as applying to everyone but varying in degree and manifestation depending on cultural context. While children expressing their sexuality is not highly transgressive in every culture, in Senegalese-French and American society, childhood and sexuality must be kept separate. Children are viewed as too young and 'un-initiated' into the profane world of sensuality. Only once children make the transformation into the social role of adulthood can they exhibit sexuality. Girls are often prematurely indoctrinated by the internet, media culture, and society that becoming a woman means being valued for their beauty and their sex appeal. Cuties, a French film written and directed by Maïmouna Doucouré in 2020, follows 11-year-old Amy growing up and contending with her sexuality. This paper will examine the tension between Doucouré, Netflix, and critics on whether the film is socially beneficial or dangerous. Set against Bataille’s theory that normalization weakens taboo and limited transgression strengthens taboo, I will argue Cuties is intended to shock its audience, and if it does not, that even further emphasizes the problem of society hiding and ignoring child sexualization. The sensitive coming-of-age film chronicles the clash between Amy’s conservative family values and the allure of her liberal French classmates who are influenced by internet and media culture.
