January 18, 2020 Sorgenti Arena GRIFFIN NEWS TODAY’S CACC CONTEST: Missed Free Throws Haunt Griffins, Head Highlights Wildcat Comeback GRIFFINS Philadelphia, Pa. --- (1/15/2020) ––– A highly emotional Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference vs. (CACC) contest saw Chestnut Hill College hold to 21 points and a 23.3% Cougars (7-of-30) shooting performance in the first half, 31-21, but only convert 17-of-30 (.567) free throws in a 75-66 loss. Sophomore forward Keyon Butler (Chester, Pa.) captained the Scarlet and Gold in the first-half with seven points and eight rebounds, but a 27-point second half from senior guard Jermaine Head (Edgewood, Md.) fueled the Wildcat comeback. Four Griffins finished in double figures, including sophomore guard Trevonn Pitts (Wyncote, Pa.) and freshman guard Scottie Spann Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa.) who totaled 18 points apiece.

Chestnut Hill College (3-13, 3-4) attacked the glass off the opening tip, forcing a Wilmington University (2-13, 2-5) an early timeout; 7-1 (16:10). But the break did not help the Wildcats as the visitors struggled from field, falling behind the Griffins by as many as 11 points, 25-14, on a Pitts layup with 2:30 remaining in the first half. Wilmington trimmed the margin by a point for halDime, 31-21, and remained down by double-digits, 45-35, with 14:20 remaining in the second half. Head took over a few minutes later, scoring 10 consecutive points in a two-minute span and bringing the Wildcats come from down seven points, 47-40 (12:21), to up three points, #23 Scottie Spann Jr. 50-47, with 9:26 remaining. The Scarlet and Gold recovered, making enough of an abundance of free throw opportunities to own a six-point edge, 56-50 (6:44), less than three minutes later. But Head continued to astound, keeping Wilmington University on Chestnut Hill College's heels until some free throws from junior guard Kameron Cooper (Gainesville, Va.) and a layup from sophomore forward Jordan Harding (Bear, Del.) evened the contest at 64-64 with 2:29 to play. In the remaining time, the Wildcats made the most of their chances and won the contest with Head at the free throw line.

Head was 8-of-12 (.750) from the field and 8-of-9 (.889) from the free throw line while handing out all seven of his assists in the second half. He finished with a game-high 33 points and got the most of his help from Harding, who scored 11 of his 13 points in the latter frame. Harding and Cooper grabbed six rebounds apiece, headlining the Wildcats' inferior rebounding effort; 46-29. Copper finished with 14 points.

Pitts (8-of-10, .800) was more efficient than Spann (6-of-15, .400) in getting to 18 points; the former added eight rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal to his, while the latter additionally provided nine rebounds and a steal. Sophomore forward Amir WarrickWarrick (Washington, DC) was useful off the Scarlet and Gold bench as he totaled 12 points, two rebounds, five assists, and a steal. Freshman guard Conor Regan (Mullica, N.J.) was active as well with 11 points, nine rebounds, and two assists. Freshman guard Ahmad Bickley (Philadelphia, Pa.) chipped in six rebounds, seven assists, and a pair of steals.
