This handbook which is published annually, both in hard copy and online, provides a wealth of current and historical infor- mation relating to tennis activities across Herefordshire and Worcestershire. It is available to members of all our affiliated clubs within the County and I commend it to you as an excellent reference publication. Once again, may I thank our Sponsors, HEAD, Dickson Minto, Courtstall, Karndean Design Floor- ing, Cane Furniture Studios, PSP and NFU Mutual Bromsgrove for their continued support which ensures that our programmes can be enhanced for the benefit of tennis in our County. I would, also, like to thank our Corporate Patrons for their valuable support. We are most grateful to them all. You will notice that in November 2019 we changed our County logo, as have other counties, to fit in with the rebranding of the LTA. We are very proud to be a supportive and proactive County As- sociation and to champion tennis as ‘one big family’. My thanks to those involved in creating our new brand. Ed Bradford has once again shown what a tremendous asset he is to the County in making it through to the National Finals (Official of the Year) of the LTA Tennis Awards which was held at Wimbledon. On the playing side the Chairman, in his report and at the recent AGM, has acknowledged many of the achievements of individuals and team members across all age levels. I would add to this list our Ladies’ Over 35 County Cup team who gained promotion to Group 3 by winning Group 4 in Eastborune. I warmly congratulate those players who have achieved success for our County and, also, at regional, national and international levels. In December 2019 one of our top, and current GB player, Felix Gill broke into the worlds top 50 (48) at 18U level and has shown on many ocassions what a splendid talent he is. We are all very proud of you Felix and wish you continued success for 2020 and beyond. My thanks go to our Chairman, Richard Herriman, to Jo Marks and Ginny Lowe in the County of- fice, to our Treasurer, Nick Thomas, and to all other members of the Management and other Com- mittees, for their hard work and support in the administration of our County LTA during 2019 – it is much appreciated. I, also, thank all our volunteers within the clubs who work so tirelessly to support tennis in our County, in so many ways. Their contributions are invaluable. Finally, I wish all of you success, both on and off the court, during 2020. We would like to think much has been achieved. The big story broke very early in the year with confirmation of the proposed County Sports Hagley investment of nearly £2,000,000.00 in tennis in H&W and more particularly Worcester city under the TBTT scheme introduced by the LTA in the last couple of years. Our success has been due in no small way to the efforts of Neil Bates, Chairman of Club Development, ably supported by his team including other partners and clubs involved in the Worcester Tennis Network. Cheaper Than Following on from this success, Neil and his team organised for the first time, Tennis Festivals in Worces- ter and also in Hereford. One of my highlights of the year was the opportunity of engaging, along with others, with the public outside the Guildhall here in Worcester where a small court had been set up and The Internet there was a continual flow of people wanting to have a go. Head Tennis balls I should at this stage say a big thank you to Ade Bates (www.adebates.co.uk) whose role with the County Clothing and Footwear has increased significantly in terms of driving forwards our social media and online presence.

  • Cricket Memorabilia Society Postal Auction Closing at Noon 10
CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION CLOSING AT NOON 10th JULY 2020 Conditions of Postal Sale The CMS reserves the right to refuse items which are damaged or unsuitable, or we have doubts about authenticity. Reserves can be placed on lots but must be agreed with the CMS. They should reflect realistic values/expectations and not be the “highest price” expected. The CMS will take 7% of the price realised, the vendor 93% which will normally be paid no later than 6 weeks after the auction. The CMS will undertake to advertise the memorabilia for auction on its website no later than 3 weeks prior to the closing date of the auction. Bids will only be accepted from CMS members. Postal bids must be in writing or e-mail by the closing date and time shown above. Generally, no item will be sold below 10% of the lower estimate without reference to the vendor.. Thus, an item with a £10-15 estimate can be sold for £9, but not £8, without approval. The incremental scale for the acceptance of bids is as follows: £2 increments up to £20, then £20/22/25/28/30 up to £50, then £5 increments to £100 and £10 increments above that. So, if there are two postal bids at £25 and £30, the item will go to the higher bidder at £28. Should there be two identical bids, the first received will win. Bids submitted between increments will be accepted, thus a £52 bid will not be rounded either up or down. Items will be sent to successful postal bidders the week after the auction and will be sent by the cheapest rate commensurate with the value and size of the item.

  • Sussex Sharks Vs Glamorgan Vitality Blast – South Group the 1St Central County Ground, Hove Tuesday 6Th August
Sussex Sharks vs Glamorgan Vitality Blast – South Group The 1st Central County Ground, Hove Tuesday 6th August Sussex Sharks moved to the top of the Vitality Blast South Group after thrashing Glamorgan by nine wickets at The 1st Central County Ground. Sussex’s fifth win out of six – they also tied against Surrey – moved last year’s beaten finalists above Kent Spitfires and they were always in control against a Glamorgan side still looking for their first win of the campaign. After they restricted Glamorgan, who won the toss, to 146 for 9, openers Luke Wright and Phil Salt launched the reply with a withering assault which brought 130 in 12 overs, Sussex’s fourth highest partnership in the format and their biggest against Glamorgan. The pair rattled along at more than ten an over from the start, matching each other shot for shot against a toothless Glamorgan attack which lacked variety compared to Sussex. Salt reached his 50 with a six into the top tier of the pavilion off Andrew Salter and the off-spinner was hit for boundaries off the next two deliveries. Salt won the game off fifth ball of the 13th over with an upper cut over third man which brought him his eighth boundary, he also hit three sixes as he finished on 78 not out from 42 balls – his third half-century of this season’s competition. It looked as if the Sussex pair might win the game on their own but Wright fell to a superb diving catch in the 13th over by wicketkeeper Chris Cooke after making 56 off 35 deliveries with five fours and two sixes.
