Conducted by The Royal Melbourne Show Competition provides exhibitors with the opportunity to showcase and benchmark their livestock in one of ’s biggest and most prestigious cattle competitions.

Steeped in more than 150 years of tradition, the competition brings the best cattle and producers together, with more than 500 exhibits displayed and judged over five action packed days – all seeking the glory that comes from being declared a Royal Melbourne Show Supreme Champion.

Exhibitors of all ages have an opportunity to interact, mentor and learn, balancing the great tradition of cattle showing with the latest innovations in technology and seedstock marketing.

JUDGING PANEL

The RASV is delighted to have the following judges for the 2021 Royal Melbourne Show Beef Cattle Competition.

Ms Aimee Bolton as the judge of the 2021 Australian Lowline Feature Show

Aimee has been involved in Agriculture all her life with a particular passion for the Beef Industry. Since graduating university, Aimee has taken on a role as Livestock Supply Chain & Extension Officer for NH Foods at their Oakey Beef Exports Facility in Toowoomba.

Aimee has been a long-time supporter and exhibitor at the Royal Melbourne Show, involving herself in the carcase competition, stewarding and most recently judging the Galloway Section and the 2019 RMS Stud Beef Schools Paraders Competition. Aimee has held several judging positions throughout the country, including European Breeds & Interbreed Judge at Brunswick Royal WA, Beef Judge at Echuca, Warragul, Condobolin Shows.

Aimee is extremely passionate about her upbringing in the Beef Industry and is honoured to judge the 2021 Australian Lowline Feature Show.

Mr Stephen Branson a judge of the Interbreed

Together with his family, Stephen operates Banquet Angus Stud in Victoria’s Western Districts, selling more than 200 bulls annually. The Branson family are long-term supporters of the Royal Melbourne Show, exhibiting and judging on-and-off since the stud’s establishment.

Stephen has judged and exhibited at Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide Royal Shows and looks forward to returning to Melbourne as judge of the Interbreed.

Mr Peter Collins as the judge of the Limousin and Shorthorns Breeds Peter is Principal of the “Merridale” Angus Stud which consists of 320 hectares in Tennyson, Victoria. Merridale cattle have been successful at Sydney Melbourne and Adelaide, gaining Interbreed Champions at all these Royal Shows. Peter has also had many years’ experience in the Pig industry as a breeder, an exhibitor and judging at major shows. Peter is a past winner of the Victorian Angus Judging and Education Competition.

Peter has been a big supporter of beef cattle showing throughout Australia, judging at all Royal Shows throughout his career. Peter looks forward to returning to the Royal Melbourne Show in 2021 to judge the Limousin and Shorthorns Breeds.

Mr Peter Falls as the judge of the Angus Breed, Charolais, Murray Grey Breeds

Peter is from Finley in the Riverina, New South Wales, where along with his family, operates Malton Shorthorns. Aside from stud Shorthorns, Malton specialises in the breeding of white bulls and supplies steers for the JBS Thousand Guinness program. In 2016, the Falls Family was inducted in to the RASV Beef Cattle Hall of Fame in recognition of 60 years of continuous exhibiting at Royal Melbourne Show.

Peter has been involved in the cattle industry his entire lifetime and in 2012 was awarded the Sydney Royal Easter Show Champion. With a judging resume that spans multiple decades across local and Royal shows, Peter has recent judging experience at Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Royal Melbourne Show. Peter’s judging expertise has taken him as far as Farmfair International in Canada, where he judged the Interbreed Competition.

Peter is looking forward to judging another quality line-up of Angus, Charolais & Murray Greys at the 2021 Royal Melbourne Show.

Mr Jack Nelson as the judge of the Blonde D’Aquitaine, Maine-Anjou, Any Other Breed

Together with his father Sam Nelson, Jack has bred Speckle Park cattle in North-East Victoria since 2012, suiting both stud and commercial operations. Jack’s love for the breeding and showing drove him to complete a diploma in agribusiness, which has allowed him to establish a career in agriculture.

Since finishing his studies, Jack has developed a feedlot business based out of Kotta, Victoria, grain finishing approximately 2500 head annually, as well as managing a larger feedlot and breeding operation. Jack’s experience in agriculture and more specifically livestock has given him the opportunity to judge at many local shows as well as the Melbourne Royal Show.

Jack looks forward to judging multiple Breeds at the 2021 Royal Melbourne Show

Mr Luke Spencer as the judge of the Belted Galloway, Galloway, Red Poll Breeds

Luke has had a passion for beef cattle his whole life, showing stud cattle at all Royal Shows in Australia. Along with his family, Luke owns and operates the renowned Spencer Family Shorthorn Stud at Yuroke, Victoria. Having previously won the Heifer Interbreed at Royal Sydney Show and the celebrated Borthwick Trophy at the 2020 RASV Hoof and Hook Competition, Spencer Family Shorthorns have achieved their fair share of success in the show ring.

Luke has judged extensively local shows throughout New South Wales and Victoria and is humbled to be judging the Belted Galloway, Galloway and Red Poll Breeds at the 2021 Royal Melbourne Show.

Mr Chris Taylor as the judge of the Hereford, Santa Gertrudis Breeds, Red Angus

Chris was born and raised into agriculture, growing up in Mortlake, Western Victoria. He is currently employed as property manager for JHW Paterson & Son, located at Bulart, backgrounding Angus Wagyu X steers & heifers – up to 5000 head per annum, alongside an Angus / Wagyu breeding program.

In 1988, Chris began work as Stud Manager for Howick Angus which consisted of 500 commercial & stud Angus cows, selling more than 50 Angus bulls each year. Howick Angus had success showing at both Melbourne & Adelaide Royal shows. From 1991 – 2013, Chris was property manager for Balderstone Pastoral Company at the Wannon – running up to 500 stud & commercial Shorthorn cattle, along with 4500 X-Bred Ewes. During this time, Chris participated in the highly rated Naracoorte Shorthorn Show & Sale with much success – Champion Bull three times – with highest average price for 3 of 4 years.

Chris has judged many local shows throughout Victoria and looks forward to applying a lifetime of knowledge to the judging ring at the 2021 Royal Melbourne Show.

Mrs Donna Robson as the judge of the Speckle Park and Simmental Breeds Residing in Adelong NSW, Donna has been the stud manager of Mount View Orchards Batlow and Flemington Limousin Stud since 2005. Donna has a long and extensive career in the red meat industry having previously worked for Elders, Food Science

Australia and Meat Standards Australia. With a wide range of judging experience under her belt having overseen judging at Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Launceston along with a number of national sale and junior judging shows. Most recently, Donna judged the Angus Feature Show at the 2019 Royal Melbourne Show.

RETURNING AND NEW BREEDS 91. Breeds that have not exhibited at the Show for two or more consecutive years are required to have a minimum of ten breed exhibits (not including calves at foot) from three Exhibitors be entered to ensure adequate competition. 92. In order for the Breed Society to be formerly recognised by RASV, copies of the constitution, breed standards, registration papers and uniform regulations are required to be submitted. 93. If entries are at capacity for the first year a breed is returning to or

showing at the Show, these exhibits can only be accommodated if final entry numbers permit. Exhibitors of such breeds will be notified at close of entry as to whether the breed can be accommodated. In this instance, in the event that entries cannot be accommodated, full refund will be provided.

DRUG TESTING 94. At the conclusion of each individual breeds judging, the RASV reserve the right to undertaking drug tests on cattle entered in the

competition.

95. Drug means any substance capable of affecting the performance or behaviour of an Exhibit by its action upon the central or

peripheral nervous system, the cardiovascular system, the respiratory system, the alimentary digestive system, the

muscular-skeletal system, or the urogenital system including without limitation, analgesics, anti-histamines, anti-inflammatory agents, blood coagulants, diuretics, hormones and their synthetic counterparts, cortico-steroids, anabolic steroids, local anaesthetics, muscle relaxants and tranquillisers. 96. It is no defence for a person prosecuted for this offence to plead that they were unaware that a drug had been administered to the Exhibit. It is the sole responsibility of the Exhibitor to ensure that his/ her Exhibit is drug-free whilst on the Showgrounds.

97. At the discretion of RASV, there will be blood testing of Exhibits after they compete in their ordinary classes and/or blood testing

at the end of the competition.
