Proposed construction of three detached dwellings and private car parking with associated new private vehicular access, landscaping, boundary treatments, drainage and ground works, and reconfiguration of existing car park. The Planning Clerk reported that the appeal had been lodged by the Applicant in respect of the above application. Appeal Decision Planning Application 18/2921/FUL Valley Mead, Convent Road, Sidmouth EX10 8RE. Construction of a single storey extension has been granted.     East Devon Bobbins Home Page Parent Page EAST DEVON BOBBINS. By BRIAN LEMIN. December 2001. Not Yet completed Introduction. Did you notice that I called these "East Devon" bobbins and not "Honiton" bobbins? (By the way Honiton is pronounced Huniton). I am afraid that indicates that I am trying to skirt around a somewhat modern controversy amongst lace makers in that area. It would appear that the term "Honiton" lace has lost its generic application to all laces made in the East Devon area and has taken on something of a dominating term where those who are not very knowledgeable seem to think that the town of Honiton is the only place that made lace in the area and that the types of lace that they made are the only ones of note. I do not want to buy into this argument, mainly because I am in no way an expert on lace and could not comment on the various claims of the many lace making towns in East Devon, but what I will argue is the the established conventions of the descriptions of lace making areas in England. There is obviously a convention that we name English lace bobbins after a particular area of England, i.e., the East Midlands, South Bucks, etc. Having said that I must immediately concede that that there are exceptions to this convention by calling the Dorsetshire and Wiltshire bobbins by their town name of Downton. None-the-less I am happy to go along with the geographical convention for this article if only to remain good friends with those lace makers that were so kind to me in that area during my recent visit to them.

    Development of the Historic Landscape of Sidbury Manor John Clark, Barbie Moul and Dianne Long Historic interest Sidbury lies about three miles from Sidmouth. The manor of Sidbury was originally owned by the Dean and Chapter of Exeter. At the end of the eighteenth century land was gradually sold off piecemeal, and Thomas Grigg Esquire was owner of the land which was subsequently bought by Daniel Cave half a century later.1 The area was known as Woodhouse and is recorded on a late eighteenth century survey map held at the Exeter Cathedral Archives (ECA).2 It is shown blanked out without detail, surrounded by tenanted Figure 2.
