    Cartoon Network Partners with 826 National to Create the First Inclusion Storytelling Project Thursday, December 7, 2017 Cartoon Network Partners with 826 National to Create the First Inclusion Storytelling Project Encourages Students to Share Their Stories as Part of “Stop Bullying: Speak Up” Cartoon Network is expanding its award-winning, “Stop Bullying: Speak Up” campaign by partnering with 826 National to launch the Inclusion Storytelling Project, which encourages youth across the country to share their individual stories about kindness and empathy in an effort to stop bullying before it starts. Working in collaboration with Cartoon Network, 826 National and its network of eight internationally celebrated youth writing organizations created inclusion-themed writing workshops for elementary and middle school students to inspire stories of compassion and understanding. Hundreds of students from the 826 Network participated in the project, and the students’ fiction and nonfiction stories will be compiled into eight illustrated publications. Each of the 826 Network chapters will host a local book release event, during which these young authors will share their work with the community. “Many of the students we serve at 826 come from traditionally under-resourced communities that are most affected by our changing political and cultural landscape,” said Laura Brief, CEO of 826 National. “We believe our students have the power and perspective to end a pervasive culture of bullying, and we are so excited to partner with Cartoon Network in sharing their stories and voices on a national scale.” The 826LA Echo Park location will be the first of eight chapters to release and celebrate student work from the Inclusion Storytelling Project with an event on Thursday, December 7 from 2:45-4:15pm.

Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü Dergisi, Cilt 25, Sayı 1, 2016, Sayfa 43-58 Medyada Şiddet; Televizyon Çizgi Diziler Üzerine Bir İnceleme*1 Nüket Elpeze Ergeç** Murat Ertan Doğan*** Özet İzleyici araştırmaları televizyon yayın içeriklerinin, izleyiciler üzerinde değer sistemlerinin oluşumunda ve davranışların biçimlenmesinde güçlü bir etkiye sahip olduğunu göstermektedir. Şiddetin sadece haber, dizi ve magazin programlarının yanında, çocuk kanallarında da önemli boyutta olduğu gözlemlenmektedir. Şiddetin öğrenilen bir davranış olduğuna vurgu yapan Riches (1989), şiddet eylemi sosyal gerçekliği pratik anlamda dönüştürmeyi hedefleyen ve bunu yaparken de içinde bulunduğu sosyalliğin düşünsel durumunu sergileyen bir yapıya sahip olduğunu belirtmektedir. Şiddetin kişiler üzerinde bir tepkisizlik yarattığı, giderek şiddetin problemleri çözmede bir yol olarak kabul edildiği, televizyonda izlenen şiddetin taklit edildiği ve televizyondaki karakterler ile şiddet gören arasında özdeşleşme kurulduğuna dair çok sayıda çalışma bulunmaktadır (Wilson vd, 2002; Kirsh, 2006). Bu çalışma, medya üzerinden çocuğun maruz kaldığı şiddete ilişkin yeniden düşünmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma kapsamında Türkiye’de ulusal çapta yayın yapan özel bir çocuk televizyon kanalının bir haftalık yayın akışında yer alan 24 farklı çizgi dizideki şiddet öğesi incelenmiş ve bu öğeler sınıflandırılmıştır. Araştırma sonunda örneklem kapsamındaki dizileri izleyen çocukların, ortalama her 40 saniyede bir şiddet içeren eyleme maruz kaldığı bulgulanmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular sonucunda çalışma, çocukların televizyon izlerken şiddetin etkilerinden korunma yollarının birçok farklı disiplinlerle işbirliği ile uzun soluklu çalışmalarla önlenebileceğini çözüm olarak sunmuştur.
