RULES FOR RESUMING A SUSPENDED GAME

At times we have inclement weather to contend with (it is that time of year), below are guidelines for resuming a suspended game. Below are interpretations of Little League rules and regulations.

➢ GENERAL. If the umpire-in-chief (normally, the plate umpire) suspends a game (darkness, inclement weather, team fails to place 9 players on the field), the game will be rescheduled as soon as possible before the two teams are scheduled to play again. Rule 4.10

NOTE: Umpires: Please give the lineup cards to the home team scorekeeper to attach to that page in the scorebook. Home Team Manager: Ensure that the Plate Umpire for the resumed game is given those lineup cards.

➢ STARTING A RESUME GAME. The game that was suspended “shall be resumed exactly where it left off.” Manager should give the plate umpire the suspended game’s lineup cards at the plate meeting. Rule 4.10(d), see Regulation VI (Pitchers), Note 2

➢ ELIGIBLE PITCHERS. See Regulation VI (Pitchers), Note 3

➢ If a game is suspended and resumed later, managers must be aware that the resumption of a suspended game is considered the same game. A starting player removed (whether it’s for an injury or otherwise) before the suspension may re-enter when the game is resumed. Also, if a player is not in attendance or not on the team before the suspension, the player may enter during the resumption if he/she is then in attendance.

➢ MINORS DIVISION. Two teams may complete a suspended game and then play the regularly scheduled game. Rule 4.12

. The pitcher of record may continue subject to the limitations provided in Regulation VI and provided for his/her age group.

➢ Pitching regulations for Pitching/Catching are in effect for that day. A player who was catcher in four or more on a day is not eligible to pitch on that day. Example: In a resumed game played before a regular game, Walter was catcher for one . At the next regular game on the same day, Walter caught for one inning. His manager had him pitch in the third inning. This is legal. A pitcher who delivers 41 or more pitches in a game cannot play the position of catcher for the remainder of that day. That is verbatim from the NOTE in Regulation VI(c).
