FOR IMMEDATE RELEASE January 6, 2012 Christian McBride Trio Added to Feb. 11 Concert with Ravi Coltrane Quartet at UCLA Live’s Royce Hall Acclaimed bassist replaces Geri Allen & The Timeline Band Bassist extraordinaire Christian McBride and his trio will join the Ravi Coltrane Quartet in UCLA Live’s first jazz event of 2012 Saturday Feb. 11 at 8 p.m. in Royce Hall. The Christian McBride Trio replaces Geri Allen & The Timeline band after unforeseen scheduling complications required the pianist and her group to cancel their previously scheduled appearance. Ticket holders may request a refund at point of purchase. More details at www.uclalive.org . McBride’s trio will close out this co-headlining event with the Ravi Coltrane Quartet. McBride is a highly sought-after performer, composer, arranger and educator, who has been omnipresent in modern music for two decades. As a sideman in the jazz world alone, he's worked with the best of the very best— Freddie Hubbard, Sonny Rollins, J.J. Johnson, Ray Brown, Milt Jackson, McCoy Tyner, Roy Haynes, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and Pat Metheny. In the R&B world, he's not only played with, but also arranged for Isaac Hayes, Chaka Khan, Natalie Cole, Lalah Hathaway, and the one-and-only “Godfather of Soul” James Brown. In the pop/rock world, he's extensively collaborated with Sting, Carly Simon, Don Henley, and Bruce Hornsby. In the hip-hop/neo-soul world, he's collaborated with the Roots, D'Angelo, and Queen Latifah. In 2011 McBride released two critically acclaimed albums, Grammy-nominated The Good Feeling , with his big band and Conversations With Christian , which features 13 duets with fellow jazz luminaries George Duke, Angelique Kidjo, Chick Corea, Eddie Palmieri, Regina Carter, Russell Malone and more. Performing with McBride at UCLA Live are Christian Sands on piano and Ulysses Owens on drums. Ravi Coltrane, second son of John and Alice Coltrane has made his own indelible stamp on jazz. Since 1991, He has diligently forged a prominent career as a live performer, recording artist and producer. In December 2011, Coltrane hit the studio to produce his first album for Blue Note Records. His UCLA Live performance will feature the Los Angeles debut of material from this upcoming album, set for release later this year. Performing with Coltrane are Robert Hurst on bass, David Virelles on piano and Karriem Riggins on drums. Coltrane’s credits include recording on more than 40 recordings as a sideman. In 1997, he recorded his first album as a leader, Moving Pictures . In 2004, he produced his mother's return to recording after a 26-year hiatus with Translinear Light , which featured an all-star ensemble of Alice, Ravi, his brother Oran, Charlie Haden, Jack DeJohnette, James Genus and Jeff Watts. February 2005 saw the release of Ravi's fourth album, In Flux which was voted the No. 3 in The New York Times' prestigious 2005 year-end top albums list.
