Big Hill Party 2013 13. Big Hill V orwort Liebe Bikerinnen, Biker, Gäste und Festbesucher Es sind schon wieder zwei Jahre vergangen und der Big Hill geht in die 13. Runde, wie immer auf der Bösegg zu Willisau. Viel hat dieser Berg schon gesehen: Ob bei prallem Sonnenschein oder strömendem Regen, ob auf den sumpfigen Wiesen oder knochentrockenen Böden. Immer war der Spassfaktor auf dem Big Hill hoch, man kann sogar sagen, garantiert. Wir haben uns auch bei der 13. Ausgabe mächtig für euch ins Zeug gelegt und dank der Mithilfe und Grosszügigkeit vieler Sponsoren ein tolles Programm zusammengestellt. Das allerdings nur den Rahmen unseres Treffens bildet, denn die Hauptakteure und dafür verantwort- lich, dass die Party steigt, seid ihr und eure Bikes, die bei uns von «Natur aus» Sonderstatus geniessen. Da dieses Jahr im Städtchen Willisau die Gassensanierung gemacht wird, findet die Bike-Show nur für die Kategorie «Fun» direkt auf dem Big Hill statt. Wir sind gespannt auf eure aussergewöhnlichen Maschinen. Es wird auf dem Big Hill das meiste in «gewohntem Rahmen» ablaufen. Ein paar Überraschungen haben wir für euch auf Lager: Jägermeister Touring Truck, AC/DX, eine der besten AC/DC Coverbands die es gibt, Holzsport-Show etc. Es gibt am Samstag eine Nachmittagskarte, das heisst, wenn die Karte vor 20.00 Uhr wieder an der Kasse zurückgebracht wird, wird der Eintritt zurückerstattet. Natürlich sind auch Familien zum Samstag- nachmittags-Programm herzlich eingeladen. Jetzt wünscht euch das OK vom 13. Big Hill – Eddy, Häfi, Tönu und Steime – allen Bikerinnen und Bikern eine tolle Party mit neuen Bekanntschaften, guten Gesprächen und einfach «Spass am Fahren und Feiern».     Rock Music in Eastern Europe – Introduction Due to the East-West Bloc formation in Europe following the Second World War, the conditions for rock music in Eastern Europe were different from those in most countries in the West of our continent. For rock fans from Western Europe, access to Eastern European rock music in the form of obtaining information and LP releases in the seventies and eighties was difficult, but not completely impossible. Today, more than 25 years after the dissolution of the Eastern European economic and military alliance and the disintegration or destruction of Yugoslavia, a large part of those countries belong to the EU and NATO. The music market has also changed fundamentally. In the meantime, practically everything is available on the Internet as second-hand records and CDs that once were produced in Eastern Europe and as new CDs and a few new LPs, although the business practices of some Eastern European sellers are not always causing satisfaction to put it mildly. There is also a lot of information on the net, but unfortunately most of it requires sufficient knowledge of Eastern European languages. However, what is missing so far is a comparative work on the development of rock music in the individual Eastern European countries from the early sixties to the end of the eighties and beyond. And a discographic selection of the interesting items for record and CD collectors and other rock music lovers in a package with an introduction to the subject of rock music in Eastern Europe on English. Rock music from Eastern Europe has been my topic for 30 years and my mailorder also began 30 years ago.

    Such a Strange Vibration: Rock Music as the Aff ective Site of Divergence among the Soviet Estonian Nonconformist Youth Terje Toomistu Abstract While Timothy Leary was preaching “Turn on, tune in, drop out” in the late 1960s in the United States, young people in the Soviet Union were practising another kind of tuning in. Radio Luxembourg and other foreign radio signals leaked through the Iron Curtain, bringing with them “the strange vibration” that sparked new social arenas and aff ective engagements. Iconic hippie-era albums were illicitly dis- tributed, copied on reel-to-reel tapes, and exchanged within the networks of music lovers. In Soviet Estonia a distinctive rock music scene evolved. Rock music was the key source and the means of divergence for the nonconformist youth of Soviet Estonia, many of whom identifi ed as or were connected to the hippies. The radically diff erent sound of psychedelic rock prompted ecstatic states of mind and triggered new imaginaries. The aff ective engage- ments with music created a sense of connection with the global pop culture and youth movements and, ultimately, fostered the sense of an imaginary elsewhere. Since these engagements diverged from the predominant discourses, and the Soviet authorities often regarded them as dangerous for societal well-being, the aff ectively loaded practices and experiences of music guided the youth to redefi ne their relationship to the daily reality and ideology of Soviet life. Hence, the rock music milieu became the site in which certain aff ects (interest in rock music), aff ective states of mind (kaif) and expressions (practices of style, artistic languages) fostered the agency of the nonconformist youth by creating a space of sen- sory divergence.
