YASH CHOPRA THE LEGEND Visionary. Director. Producer. Legendary Dream Merchant of Indian Cinema. And a trailblazer who paved the way for the Indian entertainment industry. 1932 - 2012 Genre defining director, star-maker and a studio mogul, Yash Chopra has been instrumental in shaping the symbolism of mainstream Hindi cinema across the globe. Popularly known as the ‘King of Romance’ for his string of hit romantic films spanning over a five-decade career, he redefined drama and romance onscreen. Born on 27 September 1932, Yash Chopra's journey began from the lush green fields of Punjab, which kept reappearing in his films in all their splendour. © Yash Raj Films Pvt. Ltd. 1 www.yashrajfilms.com Yash Chopra started out as an assistant to his brother, B. R. Chopra, and went on to direct 5 very successful films for his brother’s banner - B. R. Films, each of which proved to be a significant milestone in his development as a world class director of blockbusters. These were DHOOL KA PHOOL (1959), DHARMPUTRA (1961), WAQT (1965) - India’s first true multi-starrer generational family drama, ITTEFAQ (1969) & AADMI AUR INSAAN (1969). He has wielded the baton additionally for 4 films made by other film companies - JOSHILA (1973), DEEWAAR (1975), TRISHUL (1978) & PARAMPARA (1993). But his greatest repertoire of work were the 50 plus films made under the banner that he launched - the banner that stands for the best of Hindi cinema - YRF. Out of these films, he directed 13 himself and these films have defined much of the language of Hindi films as we know them today. -

Additionally, Intel Insider technology offers a “proactive queue” capability that enables consumers to pre-download films in advance of the release date and the ability to purchase those films, securely, even if they are not connected to the Internet. This would allow consumers to start watching their movies immediately on the release date without waiting for the mail or needing to download during peak traffic times. Entertainment companies in the United States, Western Europe and India are expected to announce movie services for PCs with Intel® Insider™ throughout the year. Studio Support for Intel Insider Intel has been working with movie studios in Hollywood and Bollywood including Warner Bros. Digital Distribution*, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment*, Image Entertainment*, Yash Raj Films* and UTV Motion Pictures* to offer an expanded library of movies and entertainment. As far back as you can remember, Aditya Chopra, has been a watcher, scurrying to the cinema halls to see every new release, preferably on the first day itself. Any image that moves on the screen tickles his appetite for more. When he was a kid, like Oliver Twist, Aditya Chopra, has been a watcher, he would ask for more. The first-born son of Yash and Pam Chopra is also a stickler when it comes to following the principles he believes in. He refuses to compromise his convictions. Perhaps that accounts for the honesty of thought in his debut feature, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which evidently sprung from his stead-fast regard for unsullied family values. Although you have known Aditya aka Adi even since he was a sprightly teenager, the 24- year-old has avoided sitting himself down for a formal interview. Even if you've threatened him, periodically, that you'll quote his everyday statements anyway, he's been as elusive as the neighbourhood kid who rings the doorbell and bolts from the spot. On the Filmfare Awards night - following his triple triumph with trophies for the Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Dialogue - he senses that you'd feel disappointed if he doesn't show up for the post-function photo shoot. Just for that, he turns up, whizzes before the eye of the still camera. And a few days later, agrees to a conversation conducted in a mattress-lined ante-room of the Chopras' Juhu bungalow. -

Local Films Race Ahead
lthough the Mumbai-based, Hindi- language film industry produced some record-breaking hits in 2013, Aoverall box-office growth appeared to slow again last year, following a bumper year in 2012. Bollywood hits included Yash Raj Films’ action adventure Dhoom: 3, which became the biggest Hindi film of all time on its December release, grossing $64m in India and $27m overseas. Other heavy hitters included Disney UTV’s Chennai Express and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which grossed $44m and $38m respectively; superhero sequel Krrish 3 ($38m); Sanjay Leela Bhansa- li’s Ram-Leela ($24m); and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag ($22m), backed by Viacom18 Motion Pictures. But the success of these films was not enough to sustain the previous year’s growth in the overall market, about half of which goes to Tamil, Telugu and other regional-language productions and just under 10% to foreign films. Although figures were still being com- piled at the time of writing, theatrical box office was thought to have increased by 15%- 18% in 2013, compared to growth of 24% to $1.35bn (rup85bn) the previous year. Hollywood also had some successes in India in 2013: Marvel’s Iron Man 3, distrib- uted by Disney UTV, grossed $12.3m, while Universal’s Fast & Furious 6 took $10.3m. Other big films included Warner Bros’Gravity and Man Of Steel, which grossed $6.7m and Dhoom: 3 $5.9m respectively; Fox Star Studios’ The Wol- verine with $4.8m and Paramount’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation with $4.2m. However, the US stu- dios did not have as strong a year as in 2012 when five films grossed more than $10m. -
