PROJECT: Iconography of the Roman and Greek gods

Question: How can you tell which god or you are viewing in a Roman or Greek painting, statue or mosaic? You have until Oct 7th in which to prepare a notebook or powerpoint presenting materials on the Roman gods and as listed below and be able to recognize the gods and goddesses as depicted by the ancients. This is two TEST GRADEs. One grade is the notebook/powerpoint. The other will come from a visual test. I will show pictures of a statue or other ancient depiction of a god or goddess. You will then give either the Roman or Greek name.

METHOD: The section on the gods and goddesses should contain one page/slide per deity. Each page/slide should contain the god’s:  Roman and Greek name  a picture of the god as depicted by the ancients (statue, mosaic or painting from and/or Greece  symbol for the deity –things that represent the god, their iconography  a picture of the symbol  short paragraph on the realm of responsibility for the god

The picture of the god must be from an ancient source such as a statue, vase or painting. Cartoons or modern renditions are not acceptable.

You must cite all your sources (including URLs) on each page. Search engines, such as Google images, are not sources!!
