List of Abortion Clinics in Canada (And Some Hospitals)
List of Abortion Clinics in Canada (and some hospitals) Also: Hotlines, Funds, Doulas, and Support Services Compiled by Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada This is a complete list of clinics across Canada, including dedicated abortion clinics or women’s health clinics at hospitals (starting page 4). Hospitals are not generally listed unless they are the only facility providing abortions in that province or territory (but full info is provided for Alberta, New Brunswick, and Saskatchewan). Around 90-100 hospitals across Canada provide abortions, counting CLSCs in Quebec (centre local de services communautaires). In addition, some family doctors and primary care clinics prescribe medical abortions; contact the Action Canada hotline for information. New: This list now includes abortion doula services and other abortion support services, such as free rides to a clinic. See page 3. Most clinics should provide both surgical and medical abortions, even if our listing below does not mention medical abortion. Medical abortions are done using Mifegymiso, a drug combination of mifepristone and misoprostol. An ultrasound may be required. Gestational limits are indicated where known and are usually dated from LMP (last menstrual period). Gestational age (GA) refers to the current age of the embryo/fetus, while LMP is simply the time lapsed since the start of last menstrual period – GA may be up to 2 weeks less than LMP. Funding: All services are fully funded unless otherwise specified. However, medical abortions are funded only for some patient groups in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nunavut, and the Northern Territories. These groups generally include hospital patients (including at hospital-based abortion clinics), people on social assistance, First Nations, prisoners, and military personnel.
