Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation High Level Meeting, Nairobi, Kenya, 30th Nov-1st Dec 2016 Session 2 – Moving Forward: How effective development can deliver the 2030 Agenda 30th November, 2016 (15:45-17:15) Winnie Byanyima Winnie Byanyima is Executive Director of Oxfam International. She is a leader on women’s rights, democratic governance and peace building. Ms. Byanyima was elected for three terms and served eleven years in the Ugandan Parliament. A world recognized expert on women's rights, she founded the still-thriving civil society organization Forum for Women in Democracy. She has served at the African Union Commission and at the United Nations Development Program as Director of Gender and Development. She has served on many international boards and commissions of the UN and other international bodies; and is currently an executive board member of the Washington-based International Centre for Research on Women. She qualified as an aeronautical and mechanical engineer, with degrees from the University of Cranfield and University of Manchester in the UK. Giovanni di Cola Giovanni di Cola is Special Adviser in the Office of the Deputy Director General for Field Operations and Partnerships of the International Labour Office (ILO) in Geneva. He has undertaken both field and HQs assignments in West Africa, Latin America and in the Caribbean and in Geneva working on employment, programming technical cooperation, resource mobilization, gender and partnerships and relations with the UN System and the multi-bilateral system. As part of UN Youth and Leadership Summits series he worked with relevant academic stakeholders to create masters and training courses to develop skills through and in sports. In partnerships with the CARICOM, the Association of Caribbean States and ILO constituents in the Caribbean, where he served as Director of the ILO Decent Work Team between 2009 and 2015, contributed to carry out projecting skills requirements in tourism through South-south cooperation. As an outcome of the Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) UN Conference in Samoa in 2014, he created together with academic stake-holders and ILO constituents, a Master course on Labour Diplomacy at West Indies University in Trinidad and Tobago. Douglas Frantz Mr. Douglas Frantz took up his duties as Deputy Secretary-General on 2 November 2015. In this role, he will actively contribute to the strategic direction of the OECD’s development agenda, notably in the context of the cooperation with the United Nations toward the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. He will also, in addition to focusing on OECD’s regional initiatives in South East Asia, the MENA region, Latin America and Africa, oversee the Organisation's global relations portfolio. This will include outreach and the accession processes of candidate countries, enlarging the scope of cooperation with key partners and extending the OECD’s position as a leading player in evidence-based policy analysis and dialogue to meet global economic, social and environmental challenges. An American citizen, Mr. Frantz comes to the OECD from the U.S. State Department, where he was Assistant Secretary of State of Public Affairs. He was responsible for communications and social media worldwide, leading a bureau of more than 300 staff. Before joining the State Department, he worked for then-Senator John Kerry as deputy staff director and chief investigator of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He was a newspaper reporter and editor for more than 35 years, reporting from 40 countries and covering major conflicts including both Gulf wars and the Afghan war. He shared a Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the aftermath of 9/11 while at the New York Times. He also is the author of 10 nonfiction books. Mr. Frantz holds a B.A. from DePauw University, and a Master of Science from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Marita Gonzalez Marita Gonzalez. Doctor in Sociology and PH. Of Political Science from the University of Buenos Aires. Professor and researcher of this University, she also serves as an advisor in the International Relations Secretariat of the General Confederation of Labor (Republic Argentine). Representing the Confederation of Trade Unions of the Americas (CSA) in the Trade Union Network for Development Cooperation (TUDCN), participates at the global partnership and works in the trade union perspective of the implementation of the ODS Agenda 2030. Specialized in issues of international and national trade unionism, with empirical studies in Mercosur and decent work. Marita Gonzalez. Dra. en Sociología y Licenciada en Ciencia Política de la Universidad de Buenos Aires. Profesora e investigadora de dicha Universidad, se desempeña también como asesora en la Secretaría de relaciones Internacionales de la Confederación General del Trabajo de la República Argentina, representante para la Confederación Sindical de las Américas (CSA) en la Red Sindical de Cooperación al Desarrollo, participa del partenariado global y trabaja en la perspectiva sindical de la implementación de los ODS de la Agenda 2030. Especialidad en temas de sindicalismo internacional y nacional, con trabajos empíricos en los países del Mercosur y trabajo decente. Ibrahim Assane Mayaki Since 2009, Dr Mayaki is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Planning and Coordinating Agency, head-quartered in Midrand, South Africa. Prior to this, he was the Executive Director of the Platform in support of Rural Development in West and Central Africa in Dakar, Senegal (2004-2009). He is a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Prime Minister of the Republic of Niger (1996- 2000). He served as guest Professor at the University of Paris XI (2000-2004), and as a Professor of Public Administration in Niger and Venezuela. From 1987 to 1996 he was a Senior Executive in the uranium industry in the Republic of Niger. Mahmoud Mohieldin Dr. Mohieldin is the World Bank Group Senior Vice President for the 2030 Development Agenda, UN Relations and Partnerships. Before joining the World Bank, Dr. Mohieldin held numerous senior positions in the Government of Egypt, including Minister of Investment from 2004 until 2010. He also served on several Boards of Directors including the Central Bank of Egypt and the banking and corporate sector. He was a member of the Commission on Growth and Development and selected a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum. He is a Professor of Economics and Finance at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University, an Honorary Professor at Durham University and member of the Advisory Board of the Durham Business School. He also held leading positions in national and regional research centers and think tanks. He has authored numerous publications and articles in leading journals in the fields of international finance, economics, and development in English and Arabic. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Warwick, M.Sc. in Economic and Social Policy Analysis from the University of York, and B.Sc. in Economics, first in the order of merit, from Cairo University. Nonceba Agnes Molwele Ms. Nonceba Agnes Molwele has occupied various positions within the African National Congress and the South African National Civics Organisation, from branch to regional level. After the local government elections of 2000, she became a proportional representation councillor of the city of Johannesburg. In 2009 she became the first female councillor to be appointed Chief Whip in the Council of Johannesburg. At the moment, she holds the position of Member of the Mayoral Committee, where she carries the portfolio for Health and Social Development. She is also Vice-President of the Network of the Network for Locally Elected Women of Africa, REFELA. Since 2015 back at HQs he actively contributes to various multi stake-holders initiatives such as the Mega Sporting Events and Human Rights one and UN System agendas and their implementation (i.e. COP 21, HABITAT III, SDGs). He holds Political Science Degrees and Master from Rome and Paris universities and a Doctorate in Development Economics also from Paris University and he is fluent in English, French, Spanish and Italian (Mother tongue) Gülden Türköz-Cosslett Ms. Gülden Türköz-Cosslett, a national of Turkey, is the Deputy Assistant Administrator and Deputy Director, Bureau for External Relations and Advocacy, UNDP since February 2015. Prior to this, Gülden was the Director of Programmes with UN Women. She has also served in the Office of the UN Deputy Secretary-General as Senior Advisor on System-Wide Coherence, where she led the Transition Team supporting the establishment of UN Women. Prior to joining UN Women, Gülden served as the UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Albania, and as Team Leader for the Central Asia Cluster in the Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Earlier in her career, Gülden worked with the Executive Office of the Administrator, UNOPS, and UNCDF. Gülden holds a Master’s of International Affairs degree from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. .
