Principals Message Cont. from Page 1

Our Gr 4 students head off to Camp Currumbene next week at Corop. We wish them all the best in what will be a great camp. Have fun kids! Congratulations to Jazzy Martin who won the Principal’s Award last week. Jazzy is a quiet achiever in the class who always goes about her business without any fuss. She is always willing to help others and is growing in confidence more and more each day. Well done Jazzy! Our School Board met last night and discussed a variety of different agenda items. Our building project is now behind schedule due to the wet Winter and it is unlikely to be ready for the start of the 2017 school year. We will continue to ensure that Gr 3/4 classes run smoothly until the rooms are ready to be used. The new car park has been sealed and lined. It will be open for use in the next week and work establishing the garden beds will also commence soon. We looked at some initial plans for landscaping the front of the school which includes garden beds & paved pathways. We are very much looking forward to these projects completed in the coming months. Please note that the school will be closed on Monday 31st October (Bishop’s Holiday) and Tuesday 1st November ( Cup)

PBIS Newsletter Report for October 21st, 2016

Last week we spoke about one of our PBIS words. That word is Responsible. We would like to remind everyone that we are responsible for our school. We are responsible for keeping our school grounds tidy. There has been an increase in the amount of rubbish and fruit scraps being dropped in the yard. Remember no food rubbish is to be taken into the yard and all fruit scraps need to be put in the bin. We recommend that classes begin to take their fruit scrap bins or chicken buckets out with them when they go to fitness. That way all apple cores and banana peels can be put directly into them. Let’s make a huge effort to be respectful and responsible and keep St Mary’s clean. Our PBIS Student of the Week comes from the 4/5 area. He is a calm, sensible friend and student. He always respects others ideas and opinions. He shows mature responsibility for school equipment and his belongings. Our PBIS student of the week is Jett Ward-Haig. Congratulations Jett, on being our PBIS Student of the Week!

At St Mary’s we are building Respectful, Responsible, Resilient and Safe Learners!

REFLECTION (GPBS eNews—Weekly Parables) A Good Role Model That guy Zacchaeus is one of my heroes. He was a little guy. Maybe he was pushed around much of his life by bigger people. The “in crowd” looked down upon him. He collected taxes for the Romans, so there couldn’t have been anything good about him. But Zacchaeus had guts. He couldn’t see Jesus, so he climbed a tree. His job as a tax collector also gave him the power to abuse people, but he told Jesus he would repay people “four times over” if he had treated them unjustly. He also had great wealth but pledged to share it with the poor. In this week’s Gospel, Jesus teaches by making Zacchaeus a role model. Religious people were shocked that Jesus would dine with Zacchaeus. But Jesus, unlike them, saw the man’s heart and scolded onlookers for judging Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus can be our role model too. And I bet if you look around, you’ll see Christians just like him. I have friends who constantly go out of their way to see Jesus’ spirit in people I write off. They remind me of Zacchaeus. I have friends who will quickly admit their wrongs and make things right. They remind me of Zacchaeus. I have friends who have great wealth but focus more on sharing it with the poor than on protecting it for themselves. They remind me of Zacchaeus. I have friends who have been pushed around and belittled. They’ve never been part of the “in crowd”. But they don’t act bitter. They focus in living a good life. They remind me of Zacchaeus.
