Many of the first settlers in the wilderness of Southwest Virginia in the 1740’s have been recalled by various local historians. During a time when immigration has become a debated issue it seems appropri- ate to remember the life of one Irish immigrant named Esther Thomson of SW VA. Her story is of particular interest for its uniqueness and the number of descendants she has today.
