Self help is a solution for the multiple problems created by KEYWORDS: external finance and credit for development activities. It paves way for mobilsation, Self Help, self-manage- collection and pooling of local resources and for its distribution on the need basis. As ment, self reliance, poverty, the resources under distribution are contributed by the people, their proper use, repayment and recycling are ensured by the contributing group and the community. Self-Help promotion is a process. Self help groups are structures which enable people’s participation to self-management, self reliance and sustainability and eliminating the culture of dependence. Madhu Vani Department of Environmental Sciences, Advanced Post Graduate Centre, ANGRAU, Lam, Guntur – 522 034, Andhra Pradesh, India *Corresponding author: ABSTRACT A study on “Effect of sewage water on irrigation water quality in Guntur district of Andhra K e yw or ds Pradesh” was conducted at Department of Environmental Sciences, Advanced Post Graduate Centre, Guntur during 2016-17. Water samples were collected from eight Sewage water, COD different locations namely Reddypalem, Ring road, Autonagar, Nandivelugu, Manasa and BOD Sarovaram, Ponnur road, Lakshmipuram and Collector office road. The samples were analysed for pH, EC, COD and BOD. The pH ranged from 7.1 to 7.5 in which highest pH Article Info was observed in Reddypalem and lowest was observed in Nandivelugu. ECw in sewage water ranged from 1.6 to 1.9dS m-1 in which Collector office road was recorded with Accepted: 08 July 2018 highest ECw and lowest was recorded in Nandivelugu. Simhachalam is a sacred place of pilgrimage in Vishakhapatnam district and ranks with Benaras and Tirupati, This hill temple is dedicated to Lord Narasimha, the Man-Lion incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In honour of this diety, a number of people of the district are named as Simha­ chalam, Simhadri, Narasimham and so on. The way upto the temple runs through terraced fields of pineapples dotted with jack, mango and other trees. It passes up a broad flight of weI/­ kept stone steps. over a thousand' in number, on either side of which trees have been planted to provide shade. There is a ghat road from the foot of the hill leading to the temple. Architec­ turally, the temple deserves high praise. The temple comprises a square shrine. surmounted by a high tower. a portico in front with a small circular tONer over it, a square sixteen pillared Mandapam. all made of dark granite richly and delicately covered with conventional and floral ornament and scenes from the Vaishnavite Purana. One of the pillars of the mandapam is called the 'Kappam Starnbharn' and people believe that. this pillar has the power of curing cattle diseases and 6150 barren women will be blessed with issues.
