4 5 We’re All Proud of Rev Pam

Congratulations to Rev Pam Rink on her ordination as a priest in the Church of Eng- land. Pam, a former parishioner and churchwarden at Ley- bourne was ordained last month by the Bishop of Rochester, the Right Revd James Langstaff at the Barn Chapel at the Pilsdon com- munity in West Malling. Pam has been Guardian of the Pilsdon at Malling Com- munity for the past year.

From the ordination service: Priests are called to be servants and shep- herds among the people to whom they are sent. They are to be messen- gers, watchmen and stew- ards of the Lord; they are to teach and to admonish, to feed and provide for his family, to search for his children in the wilderness of this world's temptations, and to guide them through its confusions, that they may be saved through Christ for ever. They are to resist evil, support the weak, defend the poor, and intercede for all in need. 6 7 clash- ing we Is it right to raced towards the have this much line… and we won! fun for charity? Dear Resident,

As many of you know, for several years Val, my wife, and I have agreed to allow use of the Castle for Charity and/or community events. These include the summer concert, fun day and Christmas Concert and a number of other events which are primarily family fo- cussed. Because we sell alcohol, provide entertainment and can provide hot refreshments, we have had to apply for Temporary Events Notices. At a recent meeting with a representative of the Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council we were advised that to avoid an inadvertent breach of the licensing law we should apply for a Premises Licence. This is a complex process so we have retained the services of our lo- cal Licensing Specialist, Stephen Thomas who is also a resident and has kindly agreed to assist us free of charge. First and foremost, the Castle is our home; but Val and I feel we were very lucky to acquire the Castle, and with such a wonderful setting are happy to support charitable and/or community events. As many of you know, we make no profit from this: all proceeds are donated to the Charity or Organisation e.g. local Church, that is running the event. I am writing this letter as a resident to advise you of our proposals. To avoid any misunderstandings we have decided to invite local resi- dents to an open meeting at the Castle - 6.30 p.m. for 7.00 p.m. start to finish at 7.45 p.m. on Wednesday 10th October , just before the mid-week Candlelight service at Church. We will be happy to provide more information about why we have to take this action, and how the Licensing Act works. Stephen, Val, I and some members of the Church Fund raising committee will be present to deal with any questions you may have. If you would like to know more about my proposals please come along to this meeting, or if you are unable to attend please telephone Stephen or me on 01732 321114 ( Stephen) , 01732 873324 (me).
