Siguniangshan ( Four-girl mountain) Scenic Area is an unspoiled wilderness park well-known throughout China, located in western Sichuan Province, near the town of Rilong in Aba. It includes one mountain - Mt. Siguniangshan, and three valleys -Shuangqiao Valley, Changping Valley, and Haizi Valley. The blue sky, clouds and mist, snow peaks, ancient cypress forests, rushing waterfalls, alpine meadows and local Tibetan and Qiang folk custom make this area like a fairyland. Day 01 : Chengdu / Danba Depart Chengdu in the early morning, drive to Danba (altitude 1,800m) by using the new tunnel at Balang mountain, it shortens the driving time to 6 hours. Danba, a county where you may see different Tibetan people and also their unique Danba ancient block towers. You will spend the night in Zhonglu village via a bumpy mountain road. You will explore Zhonglu village, crops fields and wait for the sunset. Overnight at Zhonglu local guest house. B=breakfast Day 02 : Sightseeing at Danba / Rilong (B) Enjoy the sunrise at Danba Zhonglu village if the weather permits, then head to visit the unique Danba Ancient block towers in Suopo, the grand and high one thousand years tower groups, the Dadu river valley, feeling and taste the folks and customs of Jiarong branch Tibet people. Siguniang Changping valley (B) Siguniang mountain was called as the east ALPs, the scenery of this place is much attractive. Today you can spend full day Trekking or riding horse sightseeing of Changping valley, here you can see the four peaks of Mt. Siguniang and virgin forest. Overnight at Rilong. Note: Horse-riding charge is based on your riding distance, Start point to Erdaoping - RMB50, Xiaganhaizi - RMB100, Lianghekou - RMB150, you can negotiate with the horse owner, the price is calculated for round trip. Day 04 : Sightseeing at Shuangqiao Valley / Dujiangyan (B) Morning drive to visit Shuangqiao Valley. In this valley, you can view more than 10 snow mountains over 4,000m high, all the peaks, trees, grasslands, streams, and water drops are completely bared in their natural being, untouched and unspoiled by man. Afternoon drive back to Dujiangyan. Overnight at Dujiangyan. Day 05 : Dujiangyan / Chengdu (B) After breakfast, visit Dujingyan irrigation system at Yuzui, Feishayan, Baopingkou to know how the ancient people do the project and how it works. Then visit Mt.Qingcheng, take a cable car up to visit the cultural relics and historic sites in the mountains, such as Jianfu Palace, Shangqing Palace, and the Tianshi Cave, etc., then walk down about 2-3 hours. Signed: _________________________________ Date:__________________________________ 2 Abstract At 14.28 on 12 May 2008, a massive earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale struck Wenchuan County in Sichuan Province. Causing widespread destruction, it was considered to be the most severe earthquake in China’s history, and indeed one of the worst in the world. Drawing on the results of an ethnographic study carried out in the disaster areas between 2009 and 2013, this research explores the impact of the earthquake on cultural heritage, popular memory, memorialisation and tourism in Sichuan. Critically examining the complex, overlapping relationships between heritage, identity and sense of place in post-disaster Sichuan, I argue that historical sites that come to mark tragic events are not simply commemorative or historically important because a disastrous event has occurred, but that they are instead places which are continuously negotiated, constructed and reconstructed into places of meaning through on-going human action. While traditional interpretation of these sites are usually viewed as static ones, they are actually dynamic sites that both generate and are informed by official, popular and individual memory through acts of localised and non-localised place production and consumption.

    Finding Pheasants A journey to Sichuan Province and the Tibetan Plateau in search of pheasants and their supporting cast, th th 8 – 30 May 2007 www.ChineseCurrents.com Sichuan is blessed with a wealth of bird life. The jewels in the province’s resplendent avian crown are surely the 20 species of breeding galliformes: Snow Partridge (monotypic genus lerwa); Tibetan Partridge (a “perdix”); Necklaced Hill and Sichuan Partridges (of the genus arborophila); Mountain and Chinese Bamboo Partridges (of the genus bambusicola); Verreaux’s and Szechenyi’s Monal-Partridge (the world’s only two tetraophasis); Tibetan Snowcock; Severtzov’s Grouse; and the most precious of the gems, eleven of China’s 28 species of pheasants: Blood Pheasant, Temminck’s Tragopan, Koklass Pheasant, Chinese Monal, Silver Pheasant, White Eared-Pheasant; Blue Eared-Pheasant; Reeve’s Pheasant, Golden Pheasant, Lady Amherst’s Pheasant, and various not-so-common races of the Common Pheasant. Sichuan is immense – about three and a half times the size of England – and so, with “only” 23 days there, we had to restrict our primary objective to a modest nine of the province’s eleven species of pheasant (Reeve’s and Silver would probably have required several more days in even further-flung parts of the province). Of the other galliformes, we set our sights on Snow and Tibetan Partridge; Verreaux’s Monal-Partridge; Severtzov’s Grouse; and the tantalisingly-named Tibetan Snowcock. So, 14 species in all. 23 days for 14 species. Not too challenging you may think. But, such is the difficulty of getting to and then finding some of them, we would have been well-satisfied with seeing half of the 14.
