A virtuoso per- former on fiddle, guitar, and banjo, Bruce is recognized as one of the most influ- ential traditional fiddlers of his generation. This is Molsky’s only appearance in the NYC area, sandwiched between extensive tour dates in the UK and the Boston area, and then a string of West Coast performances. It will be a superb evening of foot tapping music in a charming venue in the West Village -- don't miss the chance to see a brilliant interpreter of our musical heritage. Bring your fiddle, banjo, guitar, etc. and we’ll play old-time music at this small, warm, friendly venue. Acoustic instruments only-- no electric ones. Pork Chop Willy: Dance to a form of blues that has been called “trance-inducing:” music from the North Mississippi Hill Country, heavy on rhythm and influenced by the regional fife and drum tradition. The William Main Doerflinger Memorial Sea Shanty Sessions at the Noble Maritime Collection (to give the official title) are held on the third Sunday of the month, from 2 to 5 PM at the Noble Gallery, Building D, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, 1000 Richmond Ter- race, Staten Island, NY. For further information contact Bob Conroy: RConroy421(at)aol.com or 347-267-9394 Woody Guthrie: Hard Times and Hard Traveling , a Performance-Talk; Sunday, March 24th, 5 pm Presented by Will Kaufman, Professor of American Literature and Culture at the University of Central Lancashire in the UK, Hard Times and Hard Traveling is a captivating "live documentary" that sets the songs of Woody Guthrie in the context of the 1930s and 1940s. Professor Kaufman is a well respected expert on the life and music of Woody Guthrie, and the author of the biography Woody Guthrie, American Radical, published by the University of Illinois Press. In addition, he is a talented singer and multi- instrumentalist, who combines his talks with live performances. He has given Woody Guthrie presentations at such major events as the Glastonbury Festival, the Bath International Music Festival, the Chester Literature Festival, the Big Session, the Whitby Folk Festival, and the Pia- cenza Literature and Blues Festival, as well as on Amy Goodman's Democracy Now radio program.
