35C, 55C and 80C Technical Viewmast® II Dual Mast and Bulletin Service Procedures

Crosshead or This sheet describes procedures to service the cylinder and Metal Shipping Plug crosshead. New procedures for installing and tightening the I ’ I I I I crosshead to the cylinder inner plunger are described. p---- Al------,I,; Inner LTT’------\ ------,---A Plunger v’ WARNING: The crosshead must be installed Retainer *@ using Loctite 242 and tightened to the torque A value described below to prevent damage to the mast and possible bodily injury. outer Plunger Retainer Cylinder Service Remove the cylinder from the mast as described in Shell Section 5.2-3 or 5.2-4 of Service Manual 677736.

Unthread the crosshead from the inner plunger. 9it IMPORTANT: If the complete cylinder assembly is being outer replaced, the metal shipping plug at the top of the inner Plunger plunger must be removed prior to installing the cross- head. For crosshead installation, refer to step 12. Use a claw type spanner wrench (Cascade part no. 678598) and strap wrench (Cascade part no. 678649) to remove the inner plunger from the cylinder. Remove the inner plunger from the cylinder. NOTE: The inner plunger is not removable from the inner plunger. Remove the outer plunger retainer. Remove the outer plunger from the cylinder. Inspect the components for nicks or burrs. Minor nicks or burrs can be removed with emery cloth (320 grit or finer). If they cannot be removed with emery cloth, replace the part. Replace the retainer and plunger seals, back-up rings, O-rings and bearings. Lubricate the new seals with Spring petroleum jelly prior to installation. Note the correct seal _, I directions. The cylinder will not operate properly if the Control seals are installed backwards. When replacing the piston check O-ring, make sure the check valve is reinstalled with the arrow pointed in the correct direction. install the outer plunger retainer onto the outer plunger. Install the outer plunger and piston halves into the cylinder shell. Tighten the retainer to a torque of 400-450 ft.-lbs. (542-610 Nm), using the claw spanner wrench and Piston strap wrench. Halves Install the inner plunger retainer onto the inner plunger. Install the inner plunger into the outer plunger. Tighten Check Valve the retainer to the outer plunger using a torque of 300- Piston 350 ft.-lbs. (406-475 Nm). (free flow in direction of arrow1 cascade” For Technical Support.. . To Order Parts.. . Thread the Crosshead crosshead into the inner plunger until it fully seats. Tighten the crosshead to a torque of 150-200 ft.-lbs. (200-270 Nm).

Crosshead Service When servicing the crosshead components, it is not neces- sary to remove the crosshead weldment. If the crosshead weldment must be removed, the cylinder must first be removed from the mast as described in Section 5.2-3 or 5.2-4 of Service Manual 677736.

0 Raise the carriage 12 in. (30 cm) using a floor jack or overhead hoist. The carriage chains and internal reeving hoses (if equipped) will slacken allowing disassembly of the crosshead components. @ The internal hose reeving sheaves (if equipped) can be ) serviced by removing the shaft snap rings. 0 The carriage chain sheaves are serviced by removing the shaft lock tab and pulling out the shaft. Note the location of shims during removal. For reassembly, tighten lock tab capscrews to a torque of 10-15 ft.-lbs. (13-20 Nm). 0 Inspect the sheave roller bearings. If the bearings have roughness or restrictions when turning, the sheaves should be replaced. @ For reassembly, reverse the above procedures except as follows:

l Apply the shims to the chain sheaves with wheel bearing grease to align the parts for reassembly. Use equal shims on both sides of each sheave.
