SUMMARY OF NATIONAL RENEWABLE ENERGY POLICY One of Bulgaria’s priority objectives is bringing the country’s social, political and economic life into line with the European norms and standards. Bulgaria has taken an active role in the international efforts to help prevent climate change by supporting the concerted actions of the European Union and the wide-ranging package of measures in the energy sector. These measures give a new impetus to Europe’s energy security and support the EU’s ’20-20-20’ targets. The widespread use of renewable energy sources (‘RES’) and the implementation of energy efficiency measures are among the priorities of the national energy policy and are in conformity with the objectives of the new energy policy for Europe. The National Renewable Energy Action Plan (‘NREAP’) is the main instrument developed to ensure the achievement of the national renewable energy targets. The plan has been drawn up in accordance with the requirements of Directive 2009/28/EC and, more specifically, with the template adopted by Commission Decision of 30 June 2009. The plan is based on an integrated approach to the country’s public and social life, taking into account the development
