The guidelines specifically identify that Cork City and County Councils should prepare a joint retail strategy. 1.2 John Spain Associates were commissioned in August 2012 by Cork City Council and Cork County Council to prepare a joint retail study for Metropolitan Cork. The strategy set out within this document is based upon the findings of the retail study which will replace the existing 2008 Cork Strategic Retail Study. The Metropolitan Cork Joint Retail Study is available online at www.corkcity.ie and www.corkcoco.ie It is envisaged that this joint retail strategy for the planning authorities in the City and County will be incorporated into the review of their respective development plans commencing in 2013.     Extract from the war diary of the 12th Lancers (Crown Copyright: National Archives) The transcription below appears as an appendix in the 12th Lancers’ war diary in August 1914. The appendix isn’t dated nor is there any indication of who wrote it. The appendix describes the Regiment’s successful attack on German cavalry near the village of Moy de L’Aisne, France on 28 August 1914. At 3.a.m., on the morning of the 28th August, 1914, the 12th Royal Lancers was hurriedly turned out from its bivouac at Bernot, and rendezvoused on some high ground to the S.W. of St. Quentin with the rest of the 5th Cavalry Brigade, where it halted for about half an hour, allowing time to draw its rations which had been hurriedly sent up in lorries by the zealous officer in charge. Moving off again towards St.Quentin, it halted under cover, and two officers patrols were despatched to Neuville and Mesnil St Laurent. These patrols, on their return, reported that there was no sign of the enemy, and that they had been unable to obtain any news of them from the inhabitants. About 10.30 a.m., orders were received from Brigade Headquarters that the Regiment was to go into Brigade Reserve for the day at Moy on the Oise. This was welcome news, as it was an exceedingly hot day, and men and horses would all be better for a good rest. The Regiment arrived at Moy about noon, where, after watering, the horses were off-saddled and fed in the chateau grounds of the village.

Donegal F93 RW84 On behalf of: RPS Innishannon, Ballincollig, County Cork May 2019 Executive Summary This report presents the results of a desk-based assessment of known and potential archaeological constraints in the vicinity of a proposed pipe outfall at Gibbon’s Quay, Kinsale, Co. Cork (Figure 1). The proposed works are still in the design phase but will generally comprise the installation of an approx. 40m long outfall pipe that will extend from an existing outfall within the quayside to beyond the Low Water Mark within a subject area shown on Figure 2 of this report. Indicative plan and section drawings of the potential extent of the proposed outfall works at the time of writing are presented in Appendix 2. Construction of the outfall shall involve dredging of the sea bed to create a trench to contain the pipework and a concrete surround. Following installation of the pipework, surround and armour, the trench shall be backfilled with dredged material. The study area reviewed for this desk-based study comprised the subject site and an area extending for 500m in all directions from its boundary. There are no designated archaeological sites within the subject site or within its close environs and the nearest recorded example is an 18th century Custom House (CO112-058----) located approx. 115m to the north. The subject site is located within an area of Kinsale developed during the 18th century and is located c.440m to the south of the zone of archaeological notification surrounding the medieval core of the town (CO112-034001-).
