EuroEcho is the flagship of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) and the world’s leading echocardiography congress. This year’s main themes are Cardiomyopathies and Imaging in Acute Cardiac Care. The aim of EuroEcho is to create an exciting forum, in which both clinicians and scientists can present and discuss the most up-to-date research and clinical findings on the broader spectrum of echocardiography along with the other cardiovascular imaging techniques. An educational track will run throughout the congress, featuring several specifically designed courses and sessions. Young cardiologists and researchers will be stimulated and supported through the two Young Investigator Award competitions (clinical and basic science). In addition, for the first time this year, delegates will be able to attain level 1 certification in echocardiography. Also, dedicated initiatives will reward the best original research. EuroEcho is more than just education and science, it is also a fantastic opportunity to meet the greatest experts in cardiovascular imaging and to exchange ideas and projects with colleagues from around the world, who share the same clinical or scientific interest. We expect EuroEcho in Vienna to be even greater than Milan last year, which was a record-breaking edition in terms of attendance and abstracts/clinical cases presented, and received enthusiastic feedback from participants. Thank you for being here with us. December 15 & 16 History of Oklahoma State University The story of Oklahoma State University began on Christmas Eve, 1890, at the McKennon Opera House in Oklahoma’s territorial capital of Guthrie when Territorial Governor George W. Steele signed legislation establishing an Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College (OAMC) in Payne County. OAMC’s first students assembled for class on December 14, 1891, even though there were no buildings, no books, and no curriculum. The college’s first students attended classes in the Stillwater Congregational Church. The original campus consisted of 200 acres of prairie that were donated by four local homesteaders. The college’s first six graduates received their diplomas in 1896. Visitors to the OSU campus often marvel at its beauty and consistency of architecture. Much of the credit goes to legendary president, Henry G. Bennett, who served from 1928-1951. Dr. Ben- nett’s 25-year campus master plan envisioned some of the university’s most famous and beautiful structures, including the Edmon Low Library and the OSU Student Union. A new campus master plan is guiding unprecedented construction that is making OSU more competitive in academics and athletics. Starting in the fall of 2008, OSU has opened the new Multimodal Transportation Termi- nal, the new North Classroom Building, the west end zone of Boone Pickens Stadium, refurbished Old Central, the Donald W. Reynolds Architecture Building, an upgraded Murray Hall, the new Henry Bellmon Research Center, an updated and expanded Student Union, the Greenwood Tennis Center, the new north wing to the College of Human Sciences building, an upgraded Atherton Hotel in the Student Union, and the innovative University Commons residential complex and din- ing facility.
