X Factor winner blasts One Direction Submitted by: Easyodds.com Friday, 3 December 2010 Simon Cowell’s remaining act – boy band One Direction - might be down to the final five in this year’s hit ITV show, but former X Factor winner Steve Brookstein has blasted them “useless” (http://www.easyodds.com/sports-betting/tips-previews/x-factor-podcast-steve-brookstein-/news-22897.aspx), despite being the clear second favourites in the betting to become the first group to go all the way. Only Matt Cardle, this year's likely X Factor winner, is ahead of the new teen sensations in the X Factor betting (http://www.easyodds.com/sports-betting/tv-and-awards-betting/reality-tv/x-factor.html) with the bookmakers, but in an exclusive podcast interview with odds comparison site www.easyodds.com - the first ever X Factor winner has described the group as being “vocally weak”, “bad dancers” and says there are strong rumours the five lads have already signed a record deal. However, despite Brookstein’s negative views about the hottest group since JLS to come out of the X Factor, in a bizarre twist the 42 year-old still thinks they will go onto win this year's show and should be backed at odds of 7/2 to do so. His thinking here is that Matt has had plenty of bad press in recent weeks and although he’s clearly the best singer he might not be able to compete with the mass of teenage votes that are likely to be heading in only One Direction. Scouser Rebecca Ferguson looks the only other conceivable threat to the pair, says Brookstein, but when it comes to the crunch he thinks she’ll fall down by her lack of personality. Heading into the weekend’s semi-final, if the X Factor odds are anything to go by, then Cher Lloyd and Mary Byrne, who have both been in the bottom two in recent weeks, look to have it all to do if they are to make the X Factor finalists line-up the following week. Since winning the first X Factor show back in 2004 Brookstein has seen the ups and downs of the music industry, having had a number one single and then being dropped by his record label in the space of 8 months, but during the upcoming festive period he'll be going head-to-head with his old mentor Simon Cowell in the race to be 2010 Christmas number one with his new charity single ‘Don’t Give Up’, released on December 13th.
