Grand-Am – articles excerpted and edited from Jill Beck releases

ALTON, VA - April 25 -- Brumos Racing grabbed a controversial podium finish in Saturday's Rolex Grand-Am Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 race at Virginia International Raceway, and the Farnbacher Loles Racing Porsche GT3 finished fourth in GT. David Donohue (Malvern, PA) and Darren Law (Phoenix AZ) finished third in the #58 Porsche Riley, taking advantage of a late caution that allowed Donohue to make up a seven-second deficit to the third-place car. "The podium finishe enabled Donohue and Law to remain co-leaders in the driver's standings with 60 points each, and moved Porsche into a tie for the manufacturer’s standings with Ford with 60 points each."I’m very, very happy with the outcome of this race" said Law. "The win at Daytona and the podium here puts us in the points lead, which is what we’re aiming to do for the season.."A day that started on the bright side for the Penske Porsche Riley turned into disappointment for the Porsche works drivers, but even after falling back to 23rd, still managed a seventh place finish for drivers Timo Bernhard (Germany) and Romain Dumas (France). The other Brumos Porsche entry, driven by JC France (Daytona Beach, FL) and Joao Barbosa (Portugal) finished eighth.

MILLVILLE, NJ – May 3 -- Nearly every Porsche driver was smiling after the Verizon Wireless 200 Rolex Grand-Am SportsCar series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 race on a dismal and dreary day in New Jersey. swept the podium in GT – indeed, Porsches 911 GT3 Cup cars finished one through four – with victory going to the #87 Farnbacher Loles Racing Porsche of (Germany) and (Charleston, SC). The #86 TRG Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of Pumpelly (Mason Neck, VA) and Ted Ballou (Corona del Mar, CA) finished second in GT, one lap down. With their second place at Daytona and sixth last week in Virgin ia, the TRG duo now lead the GT points after three events. The overall DP victory in the two hour, 45-minute race went to the Ford Lola of Nic Jonsson (Sweden) and Ricardo Zonta (Brazil), who led 52 of the 87 laps. A spirited battle for third place overall in the final minutes grabbed all the attention from a good-sized, but very soaking wet, crowd. Passing his Porsche counterpart just four minutes from the finish, Timo Bernhard (Germany) gave Penske Racing its first Grand-Am DP podium finish after a sixth at Daytona and seventh at Virginia International Raceway. While David Donohue (Malvern, PA) and Darren Law (Phoeniz, AZ) missed the podium, they extended their DP Championship Driver’s points lead finshing ahead of their points pursuers. Club Member Racing From Sid Collins: Daytona National 5-2/3-09 Daytona Enduro – 1.5 Hr The definition of a good race Jim Clark E-production 5th place (944) Kevin Duffy & Chuck Russo (924) weekend is: "putting it on the Pedro Rivera F-production 1st place (914) Jerry Ruffino & Sid Collins (911SC) trailer in one piece , results are (this is Pedro's 1st Nat. win!! Congratulations!!) KC Ladnier (944) gravy" Sid Collins GT-3 1st place (911) (this was KC's first race and did well)

Gary Merideth finished 2nd to son Bryce at the first SCCA National Tour held in February in Georgia. Both drive the family BMW 328is in SCCA's Street Touring Extreme class. Marie Zitza thinks it’s probably Ron's new helmet that makes the wheels come off the ground in this photo at the Mitty at Road Atlanta recently! Hartmut Von Seelen shared the seat and he and Ron finished 8 th overall in the ’74 911RSR.

April 25 th – Another wonderful Sunrise to Sunset Rally started Friday night at Porsche of Melbourne with a kickoff talk by racing legend Derek Bell. And only a few hours later, we were watching the gorgeous sunrise while eating breakfast at a seaside hotel. Everyone then set out on the Rally routes which brought us to the Tavares autocross site for a Synchronization AX which pitted couples against each other to see who could get as close to matching their partners time as possible. Bert Del Villano and his AX team handled a lot of new AX folks smoothly and provided a great lunch.

Onto the rest of the Rally! We traveled across Florida on some neat roads and doubled back when stumped by the sometimes frustrating, but clever questions. No tickets that I know of and the caravaning near the end was somewhat like a DE, but with a lot of passing! The sunset at Clearwater Beach was beautiful and the dinner delicious at the Sand Key Resort. A slide show of correct answers to the Rally questions brought on hearty ooo’s and aah’s and a couple of spirited booo’s as the answers were revealed. The Sunrise to Sunset Rally trophy (see photo) stayed with the Citrus Region as they placed 5 in the top 10. The Trophy Many of the individual awards were special with Derek Bell signatures.

A big Thank You to Tom Gorsuch (Space Coast), Bill Davis (Citrus) and Ellen Riley (Suncoast) for putting together the event. Hopefully, it will continue as an annual event and the hiatus from 2002 through 2007 will just be an afterthought. The history, it’s told, is that Jeff Phillips (Citrus) proposed the event when he was President in 2000, the first year it was held. The trophy was “designed” after a German beer mug, a prize from a go-cart race, was donated and mounted by Jeff with the “SunChaser Rally” plate on the base. And the rest is history!
