WHAT WE DIDN’T SEE Though the cabinet shuffle was significant, Trudeau protected his core team, and most of the front bench remains the same. Rumours of changes to responsibilities for Immigration Minister , Innovation Minister , Transportation Minister and Defence Minister Harjit Sajan did not materialize, and certain favoured backbenchers, like , Joël Lightbound and did not make the list. Northern MPs Michael McLeod and also did not get promoted, leaving the North unrepresented in cabinet since resigned as Minister of Fisheries and Oceans in 2016.

NEXT STEPS A cabinet shuffle of this size sends a ripple of change in other responsibilities and roles. With the promotion of both the Whip and the Deputy Whip to ministerial positions, the Prime Minister will have to appoint new people to these roles. In the coming days and weeks, we also anticipate changes to cabinet committees, the publication of refreshed mandate letters and a reshuffling of parliamentary secretaries and committees to fill vacancies and elevate other MPs.
