FOR YOUR INFORMATION . . .

“THE NATIVITY CRECHE”

The first nativity Creche is accredited to St. Francis of Assisi after receiving permission from the Pope. It was a simple manger with a doll in it, to which children brought their gifts and the elders their prayers. Beside this simple cradle Francis and his breth- ren sang Christmas carols. In later years animals bor- rowed from their neighbors were added to the scene, until today in homes and churches we find elaborate Nativity Scenes. A simple creche can be made from with a shoe box with small figurines of the holy family. One can also purchase wooden structures in which the nativity figures can be placed for display.
