    AUTUMN 2011 TENANT’S NEWSLETTER Text Messaging Exciting New Development for Ayrshire Housing Tenants We are always looking for ways we can improve the efficiency of our services. How we communicate with you can make a real difference. There are a number of ways that we currently use to either contact you directly or to provide more general information and advice. Whether it is through letters, telephone calls, home visits or our website we try to ensure that the most effective and appropriate method is used to contact you. We are now looking to introduce another way to keep in touch with you. A significant number of tenants now use mobile phones either to supplement their use of landline telephones or as an alternative to actually having a landline. We are seeing elsewhere an increase in the use of mobile phone text messaging to contact and communicate with tenants. Experience elsewhere suggests that this is proving to be a very convenient way of contacting tenants. We have been given the opportunity to pilot this method of communication for a two month period. We will then take a view as to whether to purchase the appropriate IT software for us to use permanently. During the pilot scheme we will use text messaging or emails to communicate information regarding gas servicing details and appointments. If the pilot proves successful we will then consider extending the text messaging to cover other areas such as repairs and rents. Having up to date details of your mobile phone numbers and also email addresses is vital to the effectiveness of this and without these we will not be able to provide these improvements to our methods of delivering these services.

Cover design by David McClure. 1SBN 0 9527445 9 7 THE STREET NAMES OF AYR 1 INTRODUCTION Names have an important role in our lives: names of people, names of places, and names of things. In an enclosed, small community, these names remain informal, but as the community grows, and as travel and movement become commoner, then more formalised names are required, names which will prevent confusion. Formal and informal names can exist alongside one another. During the course of preparing this book, I agreed to meet some friends on the road between ‘Nick’s place’ and ‘the quarry’: that we met successfully was due to the fact that we all recognised and understood these informal place names. However, to a different cohort of people, ‘Nick’s place’ is known as ‘the doctor’s house’, while had we been arranging this rendezvous with people unfamiliar with the area, we would have had to fall back upon more formal place names, names with a wider currency, names with ‘public’ approval, whether conferred by the local authority, the Post Office or the Ordnance Survey.

    Agenda Item No. 4(d) South Ayrshire Council Report by Depute Chief Executive and Director - People to Leadership Panel of 12 June 2018 Subject: Progress Report on the Expansion of Early Learning and Childcare 1. Purpose 1.1 The purpose of this paper is to update Members on the Council’s progress with preparing for provision of 1,140 hours of early learning and childcare (ELC) to children aged three and four and eligible children aged two by 2020. 2. Recommendation 2.1 It is recommended that the Panel agrees the direction of travel in preparing for, and implementing, 1,140 hours of early learning and childcare across South Ayrshire. 3. Background 3.1 The Scottish Government has made a commitment to extend the entitlement of funded early learning and childcare to all 3 and 4 year olds and eligible 2 year olds from 600 hours to 1,140 hours a year by 2020. This is set out in A Blueprint for 2020: Expansion of Early Learning and Childcare In Scotland’. The Leadership Panel of 19 September 2017 approved the draft plan for the expansion of early learning and childcare in South Ayrshire. 3.2 Local authorities were required to submit their initial plans to the Scottish Government by 29 September 2017. Report summary 2.1 Situation The Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 introduced new duties on a range of public bodies on planning and reporting. Part 3 of the Act requires that a Children’s Services Plan be prepared jointly by local authorities and health boards. In line with this Act the South Ayrshire Children’s Services Plan was prepared for a three year period from 1 April 2017. A new Children’s Services Plan has been prepared for the three year period from 1 April 2020 and requires the Board’s approval. 2.2 Background Taking account of the South Ayrshire Youth Forum views and following consideration by the Children’s Services Planning Group, the undernoted priorities were drafted. Wider consultation was launched on 18 February 2020 and by 5 March 2020, there were 184 responses. The consultation was circulated to all partnership agencies involved in delivering services for children and young people with each agency asked to circulate the consultation. The consultation was available on the Council website and closed on 6 March. 1 of 4 2.3 Assessment The Plan sets out the priorities for the next three years to ensure children and young people in South Ayrshire are safe, healthy, achieving, nurtured, active, respected, responsible and included.
