Ballyhaunis is located in County Mayo, on the west coast of Ireland. The town and its hinterland is steeped in history and contains many megalithic monuments. Non-Irish nationals make up 42% of the population in Ballyhaunis, which is much higher than the national average and is the highest of any town in Ireland.

County Mayo is part of the province of and is named after the village of Mayo, now generally known as Mayo Abbey. It is bordered on the north and west by the and is the third-largest of Ireland’s 32 counties in area and 15th largest in terms of population.
