Proceeds from this event will support the Meals on Wheels program of Mineral County. Jennings Randolph Lake is a reservoir of 952 acres located on the North Branch Potomac River in Mineral County, WV and Garrett County, Maryland. The lake was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Construction of the lake was completed in 1981. The position will be 30-40 hours per week, February through June 2016. The Assistant will support Cacapon Institute staff with promoting best management practices for watershed conservation across the Potomac Highlands (Western Maryland, WV’s Potomac Basin, and the Shenandoah Valley (VA)). Specific tasks include, but are not limited to, assisting with: • Classroom education; • Rain garden and rain barrel installations, tree plantings, and Grow Out Station management; and, • Organizing maintenance days for exiting best management practices (e.g., mulching, weeding). The successful candidate must be willing to learn a broad range of skills in support of the mission of Cacapon Institute and goals of our programs, including, but not limited to: field and laboratory data collection, public outreach and education, and tree planting demonstrations. Requirements • Associate’s degree, or currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree, preferably in education and/or an environmental field; • Be personable, possess good “people skills,” and have a desire to meet and work with people from diverse backgrounds; • Have an interest in travel, including long hours driving and overnight trips, and the ability to work irregular hours including weekends and evening; • Have reliable transportation, a valid license and good driving record, and be able to pass a background check (required by some school systems); and be, • Capable of strenuous outdoor activity, occasionally in inclement weather; be able to routinely lift and carry 50 pounds for 50 paces; be able to walk three or more miles; and, stand for two hours or longer.
