FNC Desde la creación de la Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia-FNC en 1927, la protección de los recursos naturales, en especial el agua y el suelo, ha sido una tarea fundamental para lograr la sostenibilidad de la actividad cafetera. De manera particular, desde hace más de 35 años ha trabajado en la conservación y recuperación de más de 30.000 hectáreas de áreas de bosques de la zona andina asociados a los acueductos rurales. Entre los años 2009 y 2014 la FNC ejecutó el Proyecto GEF “Incor- poración de la biodiversidad en el sector cafetero en Colombia”, teniendo como agencia de implementación en Colombia al PNUD, que permitió entre otros resultados, favorecer la conservación de biodiversidad en más de 31.000 hectáreas de café y el establecimiento de más de 387.000 árbo- les de especies nativas, en 1.022 hectáreas de corredores de conservación. Esta experiencia y el acompañamiento financiero de KfW, en el mar- co del Programa “Silvicultura como alternativa de producción en la zona marginal de la región cafetera”, motivaron a la FNC a continuar por el ca- mino de la conservación de la biodiversidad en los paisajes productivos cafeteros, para lo cual, desde el año 2010 se iniciaron las actividades de un componente encaminado a mejorar el manejo y conservación de la biodi- versidad por parte de los caficultores. During the present study, a total of 675 moth specimens were collected from the study area which represented 112 species from 16 families and eight super families. Though much of the species has been reported earlier from other parts of India, 15 species were first records for the state of Kerala. The highest species richness was shown by the family Erebidae and the least by the families Lasiocampidae, Uraniidae, Notodontidae, Pyralidae, Yponomeutidae, Zygaenidae and Hepialidae with one species each. The results of this preliminary study are promising; it sheds light on the unknown biodiversity of Vagamon hills which needs to be strengthened through comprehensive future surveys. EENY 516 Erythrina moths Terastia meticulosalis Guenée and Agathodes designalis Guenée 1 Andrei Sourakov2 Introduction Although little known, the Erythrina moths Terastia meticulosalis Guenée and Agathodes designalis Guenée represent a remarkable case of niche partitioning (Sourakov 2011). In Florida, throughout the southern United States, and from Mexico to Argentina, these two species feed on plants of the genus Erythrina (Fabaceae). This genus, while mostly known as attractive ornamentals, has medicinal and other uses (Powell and Wesltley 1993). The descriptions of the moths’ life histories below are based on north-central Florida populations that use the coral bean, Erythrina herbacea, as a hostplant. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis keanekaragaman fenotip ngengat berdasarkan karakter morfologi untuk mengetahui jarak genetik ngengat di kawasan Universitas Riau dan Desa Siabu. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Desember 2016 - Mei 2017. Lokasi pengambilan sampel terdapat di dua kawasan dengan enam lokasi yang berbeda yaitu Universitas Riau (Arboretum, Kebun FMIPA, Rusunawa) dan Desa Siabu (perumahan warga, Bukit Tentado dan hutan sekunder). Metode sampling mengunakan perangkap layar (light trap) sebagai sumber cahaya digunakan lampu mercuri merk Philips 160 watt. Bagian tubuh ngengat yang diamati adalah kepala, torak, abdomen dan sayap, jumlah karakter morfologi yang diamati adalah 24 karakter. Setiap karakter morfologi diberi skor kemudian dianalisis menggunakan program NTSYS ps versi 2.02i. Hasil yang didapat yaitu 61 spesies dengan 414 individu dari 10 famili ngengat. Keanekaragaman fenotipik ngengat di Universitas Riau dan Desa Siabu berturut turut adalah 87% dan 78%.

The Erythrina stem borer (ESB) (sometimes known as the Erythrina twig borer) (Terastia meticulosalis), a potentially devastating pest of Erythrina spp. (coral trees), has been sighted numerous times in southern California in the latter half of 2015 from San Diego to Ventura. Erythrina, a member of the Fabaceae (formerly Leguminosae, bean family) encompasses about 112 species (Bruneau 1996) and Figure 2. BISHOP MUSEUM, HONOLULU, HAWAII Abstract: Notes on the plant hosts and natural enemies of 24 pyraloid moths in Fiji are summarized. The locations in which the pyraloid larvae feed are analyzed in relation to the growth forms of the host plants and the taxonomic classification of the larval parasites but no clear correlations are demonstrated. It is concluded that damage by certain species of pyraloids is of economic importance; that larval parasitization is generally low; and that further introduction of parasites should be attempted. Special attention was given in this study to pyraloid larvae feeding in concealed loca­ tions on their plant hosts, e. g. leaf rollers and pod borers. The parasites attacking larvae in both concealed and exposed situations were also studied and, whenever possible, the average level of parasitization was estimated. Samples were taken at various points on Viti Levu and held for moth and parasite emer­ gence in gauze-topped jars or cotton-stoppered vials at the Koronivia Research Station in Southeast Viti Levu. Viti Levu is the largest (10,385 sqkm=4,010 sq miles) island in the Fiji group. Annual rainfall is 178 cm (70'0 in the NW and 304 cm (120") in the SE, being heaviest during the summer months (January-March) in both zones. The assistance of Mr. J. W.
