WHO ARE GLOBAL ADVENTURE CHALLENGES? • GAC have been operating charity challenges for almost 20 years • We have worked alongside over 1,500 different charities and have helped raise in excess of £30 million through the provision of overseas challenges • Currently operating in over 36 countries worldwide • Over 120 challenges operated in 2018 • Fully bonded through CAA – ATOL 6506 CHALLENGE ITINERARY DAY 1 WE DEPART THE UK FOR OUR OVERNIGHT FLIGHT TO DAY 2 WE ARRIVE IN BEIJING AND TRANSFER TO PINGGU Day 2

Upon arrival in Beijing we meet one of our guides who will be with us for the rest of the challenge and transfer to our hotel in Pinggu situated next to Jinhai Lake.

The afternoon is free to explore the area around the hotel. If we have the energy after the long flight, there is an opportunity to take part in a warm up walk up the lovely hill at the back of the hotel that gives us the best views of the lake. Day 2

DAY 3 TAIPINGZHAI TO HUANGYAGUAN TREKKING DISTANCE 4 - 5KM APPROX. / 3 HOURS Day 3

Today is a warm up trek to get our muscles used to the Great Wall steps. We start trekking at the east entrance of the Great Wall along the Taipingzhai section before coming back around to the military barracks.

DAY 4 THE LONGEST TREKKING DAY! TO TREKKING DISTANCE APPROX. 13KM / 8 HOURS Day 4 We transfer to Gubeikou, then trek to Jinshanling, trekking original parts of the Great Wall that link three famous sections (Gubeikou-Jinshanling-). Our challenge today is to cover the 27 watchtowers over the old brick- made steps. Day 4

DAY 5 TREK FROM JINSHANLING, LOCATED IN THE MOUNTAINOUS AREA IN LUANPING COUNTY.

TREKKING DISTANCE APPROX. 7.5KM / 5 - 6 HOURS Day 5

We trek to a remote section of the Great Wall in Jinshanling. Today we encounter lots of steps, with countless ascents and descents as we trek. Day 5

DAY 6 – THE MIGHTY 1000 STEPS CHALLENGE AND THE HEAVENLY LADDER! TREKKING DISTANCE APPROX. 7KM / 6 HOURS Day 6 After our transfer to Mutianyu, we climb the 1000 steps from the foot of the Great Wall and trek through 11 watchtowers before tackling the 460 step Heavenly Ladder to the top of the mountain to witness the stunning scenery. Day 6 After we’ve taken in the incredible views from the top of the Heavenly Ladder, we head back down following the route we have just climbed. When we get closer to the bottom of the wall we have three choices – follow the 1000 steps back down, descend in a cable car or take a toboggan!

DAY 7 HELPING TO REPAIR THE GREAT WALL! JUYONGGUAN AND

TREKKING DISTANCE APPROX. 3KM / 3 HOURS Day 7 We transfer to the Juyongguan area of the Great Wall to continue our trek. The Juyongguan section of the Great Wall is very similar to the Huangyaguan section and had similar strategic importance 600 years ago. Day 7 We continue to the Badaling Old Section and help repair the Great Wall – a real challenge highlight exclusive to Global Adventure Challenges!

DAY 8 FREE DAY TO ENJOY THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE OF BEIJING BEFORE OUR CELEBRATORY MEAL! Day 8 There is an optional full day excursion to explore some of the highlights of Beijing!

DAY 9 WE TRANSFER BACK TO BEIJING AIRPORT FOR OUR FLIGHT TO THE UK, ARRIVING THE SAME DAY TRAINING AND COSTS Fitness and preparation ahead of your challenge: •We strongly advise for participants to train in the lead up to their challenge, by increasing your fitness levels it ensures you will receive Costs the BEST experience from this Challenge Option A • A mixture of cardio-vascular and strength training is best - walking, Registration Fee £299 running, light weight training etc. + Minimum sponsorship •The terrain is varied and sometimes difficult – fitness train in the £2,750 hills if possible! + Airport Tax & Fuel Surcharge £250 •You CAN fit training into your lifestyle… • We’re here to support you every step of the way, we provide fitness Option B training guides (available via GAC website) and also host non-profit Registration Fee £299 training weekends – a great way to assess your fitness and push your + Self Funded £1,375 progress. + Airport Tax & Fuel Surcharge £250 How we can help

Fundraising target £2750 = £275 per month (over 10 months)

• Publicise your story in local papers, in your local community. • Help you to set up an online donation page & give tips on how to maximise your fundraising through social media. • Help with writing your story to inspire others to donate & raise awareness of your challenge • Share your story on the Hospice social media channels. • Share previous examples of Just Giving/Virgin Money Giving pages that have been successful. • Monthly check-in’s to with the supporters to see how they’re getting on any support needed. • Provide you with a community fundraising kit for any events you organise in the lead up, for example: bake sales, non uniform days, coffee mornings, Sweepstakes, Snowdon climb with friends. • Training days | Facebook networking group | Meet up days in lead up to events What difference will my participation in the China Challenge make?

For every £ donated to St David’s Hospice is spent on delivering care and support to patients, their families and carers.

The remaining 12p is spent on maintaining the Hospice building and generating further funds.

Every penny raised for St David’s Hospice remains local. Thank you!
