Support is offered to help people deal with situations and circumstances that need to be addressed immediate ly.Tackling homelessness is a key priority for Sheffield with a myriad of contributing factors it remains a dismal reality for too many people . Covid Safety in All Hallows Church Following advice from the Government and the Diocese of Sheffield we have put in place certain Covid related guidelines in order to maintain a high level of safety : ~ Please do not attend if you are unwell . ~ Entry to the Church will be through the main door. You will be asked to use the hand sanitiser in the porch. ~ Face coverings are mandatory. ~ Alternate pews will be used , maintaining social distancing for members of different households. ~ There will be a one-way system , with exit from the Church via the door in St George’s chapel . ~ We will be unable to provide refreshments after the Service, but would like to invite people to bring their own drinks and meet up outside the Church afterwards—socially distancing , of course! ~ The Schoolroom toilets will not be accessible. ~ You will be requested to give consent to leaving contact details in accordance with NHS Test and Trace To reduce the risk of virus transmission , the Church building will remain locked between services. Gluten free wafers are available, please ask when the minster approaches you. If you do not wish to receive Holy Communion, you are invited to receive a blessing. If you wish to receive a blessing, please hold this booklet so that it can be clearly seen by the ministers. The instructions to sit, kneel and stand are only suggestions: please feel able to adopt whatever posture you wish. Notes on worship during Covid Please do not greet each other with a handshake before or after the service. Similarly, we ask you not to share the peace physically with anyone outside your household. We will not take a collection during the service. You are asked to put your gift into a collection box before or after the service. During Coronavirus we follow the pre-Reformation practice in the Cathedral. The President of the Eucharist alone receives from the cup, as a representative of all the faithful, everyone is welcome to receive the consecrated bread. Please stand and remain at your seats as the ministers distribute the consecrated bread. We ask everyone to use the hand gel provided as the minister approaches you, before you receive. We particularly request you to take your service booklet away with you, as this is safer for the Cathedral staff.     PORVOO PRAYER DIARY 2021 The Porvoo Declaration commits the churches which have signed it ‘to share a common life’ and ‘to pray for and with one another’. An important way of doing this is to pray through the year for the Porvoo churches and their Dioceses. The Prayer Diary is a list of Porvoo Communion Dioceses or churches covering each Sunday of the year, mindful of the many calls upon compilers of intercessions, and the environmental and production costs of printing a more elaborate list. Those using the calendar are invited to choose one day each week on which they will pray for the Porvoo churches. It is hoped that individuals and parishes, cathedrals and religious orders will make use of the Calendar in their own cycle of prayer week by week. In addition to the churches which have approved the Porvoo Declaration, we continue to pray for churches with observer status. Observers attend all the meetings held under the Agreement. The Calendar may be freely copied or emailed for wider circulation. The Prayer Diary is updated once a year.     Coronavirus Ad Clerum 22 September 2020 Dear Friends Greetings from Bishop Sophie! Therefore, since it is by God’s mercy that we are engaged in this ministry, we do not lose heart. We have renounced the shameful things that one hides; we refuse to practise cunning or to falsify God’s word; but by the open statement of the truth we commend ourselves to the conscience of everyone in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus’ sake. For it is the God who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness’, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4.1–6 It is a great joy to greet you all, finally, as the Bishop of Doncaster! This is one of the readings from the service at York Minster yesterday which though strange, due to the restrictions of Covid 19, was nonetheless a wonderful confirmation of God’s call to me to serve alongside you in our Diocese of Sheffield. In the circumstances, the gift as a result of this situation is that I enjoyed the support of many of you personally, as I have been able to get to know many of you as I wouldn’t have been able to do, if the service had taken place when originally planned in March.

    Coronavirus Ad Clerum 5th October 2020 Dear Friends In you, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me; turn your ear to me and save me. Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. Psalm 71: 1-3 Psalm 71 from Morning Prayer today, reminds us of God’s constant protection in our lives. By now many of us will be feeling weary of the impact of Covid 19 and as the weather changes and evenings are longer, the challenge to remain hopeful and trusting is perhaps more demanding. The image of God as our refuge is one that is repeated throughout scripture. The Hebrew word for refuge ‘chs’ means ‘support’ as in a wall against which we can confidently lean our whole weight. That is rather different from us hiding away and hoping the threat will pass. Rather it encourages us to act, confident that God is with us and will carry us in and through all that we face. Clearly we continue to heed all the guidance to stay safe in this time, but my prayer today is that you know God to be your refuge both personally and professionally, for yourself and those you live with and for the people among whom you serve. I would never have expected my first year as President to have been so hectic and so varied. As Pauline told me before I took on this role, ‘you get to see and meet some wonderful people and places.’ She wasn’t wrong! I have visited every Deanery except one and that will need to be rectified soon. Every Branch and Deanery is different.
