Discography of the Mainstream Label
Discography of the Mainstream Label Mainstream was founded in 1964 by Bob Shad, and in its early history reissued material from Commodore Records and Time Records in addition to some new jazz material. The label released Big Brother & the Holding Company's first material in 1967, as well as The Amboy Dukes' first albums, whose guitarist, Ted Nugent, would become a successful solo artist in the 1970s. Shad died in 1985, and his daughter, Tamara Shad, licensed its back catalogue for reissues. In 1991 it was resurrected in order to reissue much of its holdings on compact disc, and in 1993, it was purchased by Sony subsidiary Legacy Records. 56000/6000 Series 56000 mono, S 6000 stereo - The Commodore Recordings 1939, 1944 - Billy Holiday [1964] Strange Fruit/She’s Funny That Way/Fine and Mellow/Embraceable You/I’ll Get By//Lover Come Back to Me/I Cover the Waterfront/Yesterdays/I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues/I’ll Be Seeing You 56001 mono, S 6001 stereo - Begin the Beguine - Eddie Heywood [1964] Begin the Beguine/Downtown Cafe Boogie/I Can't Believe That You're in Love with Me/Carry Me Back to Old Virginny/Uptown Cafe Boogie/Love Me Or Leave Me/Lover Man/Save Your Sorrow 56002 mono, S 6002 stereo - Influence of Five - Hawkins, Young & Others [1964] Smack/My Ideal/Indiana/These Foolish Things/Memories Of You/I Got Rhythm/Way Down Yonder In New Orleans/Stardust/Sittin' In/Just A Riff 56003 mono, S 6003 stereo - Dixieland-New Orleans - Teagarden, Davison & Others [1964] That’s A- Plenty/Panama/Ugly Chile/Riverboat Shuffle/Royal Garden Blues/Clarinet -

Theorizing the Anti-Fan
Beyond the H8R: Theorizing the Anti-Fan “Where‟s the „Dislike‟ Button?” From the benign to the vitriolic, haters are everywhere. One TV critic recently asked, ―Whatever happened to ‗I don‘t like‘?‖(Weeks 2011) Let us consider ―hateration,‖ that is hate as anti-fan activity, on a continuum. On the passive end, if you do not like something on a Facebook friend‘s wall your options are to either comment with your dislike or ignore the posting. Somewhere in the middle of the continuum, celebrity news blogs such as dlisted, mix equal parts adoration and hate in posting, such as acknowledging celebrity birthdays under the heading ―Birthday Sluts.‖ And, at a gathering of friends, a lull in conversation can be enlivened by a round of the party game, ―Kill, Fuck, Marry‖ or naming six celebrities you would like to put on an airplane that is sure to have engine failure and crash. (Those last two are on the vitriolic end, in case that was not clear.) Hate for genre texts, people, events, and objects in popular culture is all around us, yet it continues to be an overlooked sentiment in fan studies. Anti-fans hang about the periphery of fandom, but they are nonetheless part of the fan world. It is not that web 2.0 – the mix of interactivity and online communities – is blind to the existence of dislike nor completely ignores the sentiment. The 2012 Adobe Digital Index Report finds that a little more than half (53%) of consumers surveyed ―said they would very much like to have a ‗dislike‘ button‖ on the social media site Facebook (Lomas 2012). -

Gender Roles & Occupations
1 Gender Roles & Occupations: A Look at Character Attributes and Job-Related Aspirations in Film and Television Stacy L. Smith, PhD Marc Choueiti Ashley Prescott & Katherine Pieper, PhD Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism University of Southern California An Executive Report Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media Our earlier research shows that gender roles are still stereotyped in entertainment popular with children.1 For example, female characters in feature films populate less than 30% of all speaking roles. A slightly better percentage emerges across our research on gender roles in children’s television programming. Not only are on screen females present less frequently than on screen males, they are often sexualized, domesticated, and sometimes lack gainful employment. To illustrate this last point, our recent analysis2 of every first run general audience film (n=21) theatrically released between September 2006 and September 2009 reveals that a higher percentage of males (57.8%) than females (31.6%) are depicted with an occupation. While females hold marginally more professional jobs than their male counterparts (24.6% vs. 20.9%), women are noticeably absent in some of the most prestigious occupational posts. Across more than 300 speaking characters, not one female is depicted in the medical sciences (e.g., doctor, veterinarian), executive business suites (e.g., CEO, CFO), legal world (e.g., attorney, judge), or political arena. More optimistically, 6 of the 65 working females (9%) are shown with a job in the hard sciences or as pilots/astronauts. These findings suggest that females have not shattered as many glass ceilings in the “reel” world as one might suspect. -

Charting the Roles of Women in the Catholic Church
FutureChurch Charting the roles of women in the Catholic Church Current breakdown of male/female leadership in Vatican dicasteries Pope Francis has called for “a more incisive presence for women” in the Catholic Church. At the most recent Consistory of cardinals on February 12 and 13, 2015, Fr. Federico Lombardi reported that the cardinals expressed the hope of “an increasingly active role” for women. Although Pope Francis stated the door is closed on the question of ordination for women to the priesthood, he has been emphatic in his call for a stronger presence of women elsewhere. He recently appointed Sr. Mary Melone, the first women to date, to head a Pontifical University; Sr. Luzia Premoli, the first women to be appointed as a member of the Congregation on Evangelizat ion of Peoples, and has stated that women should take up positions of greater leadership within the Vatican. So how many women are in positions of leadership within the Curia? How many assert real influence? While it is difficult to accurately measure the level of influence women exercise, the chart below has been generated to further that discussion by showing the current roles women play now in Vatican congregations, pontifical councils, and other commissions, committees and offices. Secretariats, Congregations, and Pontifical Councils There are two secretariats, nine congregations and twelve pontifical councils. Below is a chart indicating the number of Vatican officials broken out in terms of male/female roles from undersecretary and above. Vol 2, No 50 Cardinal James Mcintyre Retires
SACRAMENTO DIOCESAN ARCHIVES Vol 2 Fr John E Boll, Diocesan Archivist No 50 CARDINAL JAMES FRANCIS McINTYRE, THE WEST’S FIRST CARDINAL ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT Printed in the January 22, 1970 issue of the Catholic Herald Photo by Corbis.com Cardinal James McIntyre, Archbishop of Los Angeles James Francis Cardinal McIntyre, archbishop of Los Angeles since 1948, who is known as the archconservative of the American hierarchy, has retired according to an announcement made by the Vatican on Wednesday. Pope Paul VI accepted the resignation of the 83 year-old cardinal for reasons of age. The cardinal had served his archdiocese for eight years longer than the recommended retirement age of 75 which had been fixed by Pope Paul VI. Vatican sources announced that automatically succeeding Cardinal McIntyre as archbishop of Los Angeles, one of the largest jurisdictions in the United States, is Archbishop Timothy Manning, formerly bishop of Fresno and now coadjutor bishop in Los Angeles with the right of succession. Frequently involved in headline making disputes with clergy and religious of a liberal bent, the cardinal is praised by Catholics of many viewpoints for his consistent endeavors to raise the standard of Catholic education in his archdiocese. A native of New York, Cardinal McIntyre, who will remain a member of the College of Cardinals, will be 84 on June 25. He was named archbishop of Los Angeles in 1948 and was made a cardinal by Pope Pius XII in 1953. Cardinal McIntyre has been one of the leading conservatives in the American church, a stance which often led to controversy with liberal elements of his archdiocese. -
