It is with great sadness that we say good-bye to one of our own, again. Bob Ward was a great Friend and Brother and he passed away doing what he loved the most. We will all miss your friendly, helpful, loving per- sonality. Till we meet again. The BIG ride 2010, which was a history making event, was the Scooter Ride, spearheaded by none other than ―Big Daddy‖ Ed Dacus. SO WE THOUGHT . What a great job and a GREAT ride. That was last April. But the REALLY BIG RIDE of 2010 was the November Scooter Ride. Thanks again to all the people involved and a special Colonel Bob thanks to Jeffie Dacus Ed’s Mother, Sherri Dacus, Les- lie Dacus Ed’s daughter-in-law. The Breakfast was OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD AGAIN. NOVEM- BER 13, 2010 turned out to be one of the coldest and rainiest days of the month. But the response was overwhelming. You may know 79 people attended the April event with 49 riders were rolling. The November event brought out 112 people and a total of 97 bikes, 50 of which braved the elements and actually rode the three stop shop tour laid out by Big Daddy and Shane Dorton. -

CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE: Our Century Run was held in the Cradle of Humankind on a cool autumn morning of 19th April. Rob Pattison-Emms almost finished his fingernails worrying about weather and eventual turnout. There was no need as the official record of entrants reached 28. This was a result of Jef Frost and Roy Moult travelling all the way from Klerksdorp to join the fun. Well done Rob for another successful Century Run, we look forward to next year at the Neck & Deck Restaurant. The food quality, and volume, confirmed Neck & Deck as the venue for the upcoming VMC Winter rally on 19 July so get your leathers pressed and helmets polished for an event of about 120kms in the tranquil and safe “Cradle”. Roly Tilman is in touch with Peter de Klerk, who is not doing very well at the moment. Please guys, any visits would be greatly appreciated, although we suggest you contact Roly (details on the last page of the newsletter) for appropriate times as Peter has a hectic Dialysis schedule. I know you’ve all made a note to help man the VMC stand at the 1000 Bike show in July. Please don’t forget to be there. Les Sim is awaiting sponsorship responses for the 2016 VMC Calendar. R2300-00 guarantees your company name in the publication. Contact Les (details on the last page of the newsletter) as soon as possible. Administration and payments need to be completed by May 2015 for the exercise to work out in time. -

Samma år fick upprättstående motorer upp till 3 ½ .1909 tog man man också sin logotyp, de välkända stackade gevären. beslut om att börja tillverka och försälja kompletta Men eftersom vapentillverkningen var huvudsaken motorcyklar. Man hade gjort någon provmaskin så lades cykeltillverkningen ned 1888 på grund av en tidigare med en importerad motor, men uppgifterna stor gevärsorder. 1892 började man med cykeldelar kring detta är mycket vaga och ofullständiga. och 1895 upphörde den igen då Boerkriget krävde Nu började man en noggrann utveckling av en mängder med vapen. Det tog ända till 1908 innan komplett maskin och efter 12 månaders utveckling cykeltillverkningen var igång igen. Man satte upp och noggranna utprovningar var man redo att visa en exportavdelning och BSA:s trampcyklar erövrade upp sin första motorcykel. Det var denna maskin kontinenten med sin höga kvalité. som premiärvisades på den första Olympia Show i London, oktober 1910. Detta var BSA:s första helt BSA:s varumärke, de stackade gevären. The egentillverkade motorcykel. Tanken var lackerad Gun and Garter, BSA:s i grönt och gult som många BSA-maskiner skulle Trade Mark. Den består av komma att bli efter denna. Motorn var på 499 cc I Svenska BSA Klubben vill vi i år särskilt fira att det bara Världens största motorcykeltillverkare utan tre ‘stackade’ gevär alltså och utvecklade 3,5 hk, borrning x slaglängd var är 100 år sedan BSA startade serieproduktion av också den största industrikoncernen i Storbritannien. -

All the organising, worrying and planning and for some all the late nights and dirty fingernails. All over for yet another year. The JD 2013, the centenary year is now history and yet what a run it was. Will there ever be another like it? – Probably not. A true vote of thanks must go to Pierre and everyone else involved in the organising and running of an event of this magnitude. That it took place with minimal issues, no serious injuries and a successful outcome is testament to the skills, dedication and hard work of the organising team and a huge thank you must go to each and every one of you. To those of you who did not finish – don’t be disheartened – remember you did participate and those memories will not fade. To those who did finish – and in particular those who were placed in the various categories – hearty congratulations. To Kevin Robertson the outright winner – and now a six times winner – a much deserved accolade. Kevin is not only the winner, but a true motorcyclist, gentleman and enthusiast who has put so much into this strange but wonderful pursuit of ours. Gavin Walton is on the mend and Ian Hesketh is in Olivedale clinic undergoing radiation treatment. We wish them well. Yours in safe riding Andy Stead 2 March club night. The Veteran and Vintage Motorcycle Club of SA was formed in 1956 with the objective of preserving, restoring and riding veteran, vintage & post vintage motorcycles. The club is an active club of over 300 members, catering for veteran, vintage and classic motorcycles built prior to January 1, 1966. The Club is one of the oldest in the country, now celebrating our 60th Anniversary Rally in 2016. Each month we have a ride of members mostly through the picturesque Adelaide Hills. This 1927 Buick was owned by William Charles Barnes of Argyle Street Dunedin. He owned the company W C Barnes & Co which traded as the Mazon Shirt Factory in Great King Street, Dunedin. This photograph is thought to have been taken in the Taieri Mouth area approximately 1928. The picture is taken by Barnes and shows from left, his wife Emily, Charlotte Covic (nee Partridge), Ray and Harold Barnes. In the driver’s seat is my mother-in-law Madge Partridge (nee Barnes) and her elder sister Eileen. The car was sold in 1935 in order that Barnes had sufficient money to ensure his staff were paid during the Depression. He never laid any of his 27 staff off and continued to employ them even when their hours were reduced. Monarch Neverslip Tractor – This photograph was taken on 21 September 1920. It shows a boiler being dragged into the Mangahao Valley behind Shannon to the Mangahao Hydro Electric Project. The boiler was to power the jig line which transported shingle for the construction of the No 2 Dam. It is pulled by two identical Monarch tractors. Monarch Tractors Limited of Watertown, Wisconsin produced crawler tractors from 1916 until 1928 when the company was purchased by Allis-Chalmers in February of that year. The name Monarch did however continue to be used as a model name by Allis- Chalmers. -

Max Bubeck: Still an Indian Man Joe Michaud Max Bubeck, a pioneer of Southern California motorcycling, has ridden Indian Motocycles for 71 years and he‟ll quickly tell you that he is “in seven Motorcycle Halls of Fame” because of it. He bought his first machine, a 1930 Indian 101 Scout, in Los Angeles in 1933 when he was 15 years old. “I never looked back,” he says. In 1935, Bubeck began riding with “the local hounds,” as he calls them, and was soon accompanying them to the California dry lakes of Muroc and Rosamond where timed top speeds events were being held. In 1936, he rode 107 mph on a specially prepped Indian Chief…quite an accomplishment when Indians were using a side-valve motor technology.
