The ◦ technique utilizes throws along straight lines, as they would travel in space. By rotating my body around my center of mass, I allow for the balls to be caught while I spin in a cartwheel motion. Although it could be performed on a parabolic flight or spacecraft, I have decided to focus on being able to present it on Earth. This has required building an apparatus and juggling surface which allows the balls to travel in straight lines rather than arcs (as they normally do on Earth). A benefit of this presentation style is that it is easy to control the perspective of the camera viewing it, and thus the viewers “reference frame.” I offer the viewer an altered experience of reality by rotating their perspective along with my body, demonstrating the importance of “reference frame” on “perspective.” Due to the range of my work on the technique, from performance to mathematical analysis, this piece can be presented to audiences ranging in interest from “I want to see rockets” to “I want to understand rocket science.” Equipment Development: I have worked closely with Todd Spiering (professional rigger and circus equipment builder) of CircusGear ◦ to develop the equipment needed to safely suspend myself in the air. I have received assistance in the design of components which cause rotation by motors from members of the Ashton Graybiel Spatial Orientation Laboratory at Brandeis University, who specialize in the study of the human vestibular system in altered gravitation environments. Mathematical Theory: I have formulated an equation which represents every way a ball can be thrown from one hand to the other ◦ hand. This has been formulated into a technical paper, which will be submitted to a peer reviewed journal. I have also formulated a series of computer programs which have allowed for deeper exploration of the potential trajectories the balls may inhabit. This suite of programs and mathematical analysis will allow me to present the work for audiences who find motivation in observing the development of mathematics through art, or the development of art through mathematics. Microgravity Movement Research Raleigh, NC Creator - https://www.adamdipert.com/zero-gravity April 2013 - present Physicist and Programmer: Written computer simulations of articulated human body based on measured medical research data. Code ◦ is capable of calculating the center of mass and moment of inertia tensor for human body in any position. Code written with quaternion implementation of rotations and 4th-order Runge-Kutta Differential Equation Solver for time evolution of interaction between angular momentum and moment of inertia. Movement Artist Training: Co-sponsored first ever workshop series with Dr. Kitsou Dubois in the US. Organized multiple zero gravity ◦ training residencies for dancers in Seattle, WA, Northampton, MA (Smith College), and North Carolina. Developed movement training techniques for movement artists using aerial harnesses, tunnel flights, flotation chambers, pools, and dance studios. Kinetics of Math Raleigh, NC Owner - www.kineticsofmath.com Oct 2015 - present Creation and deployment: Developed educational program for students with Algebra level skills and higher. Students learn to spin ◦ Poi (balls on strings) while making geometric patterns. Students then work with computers to learn how to plot and understand curves and complex mathematical objects using Trigonometry and Parametric Equations. The mathematical objects explored are the same ones which students had created with Poi. I have taught these lessons with students at the Forge Initiative (Robotics club), privately, and at the NC School of Science and Mathematics (2016 to 2019). • The Prescott Clowns
The Prescott Clowns From Prescott Elementary School Oakland, California This energetic group of clowns is directed in an after school program by Aileen Moffitt, a second grade teacher, aka "Irma La Clown." These children receive training in circus skills from professionals, then dazzle everyone with their juggling, unicycle riding, and dancing. They give back to their community tenfold with workshops in classrooms and performances at many commu- nity events, nursing homes, and shelters -- besides a long list of school assemblies. "Wherever we perform -- from lavish banquet receptions to small neighborhood events -- it is our intention to dispel negative myths about the children of West Oakland. And we do!" These children sometimes labeled "at risk," become "at promise'' behind a red nose. On the cover: The 1998 Senior Prescott Clowns Photos by: Betty McAfee, except where indicated. This will be the 15th season for the Prescott Clown Troupe. Last year in addition to the Senior Clowns, they incorporated a Junior Clown Troupe - third graders of 8 or 9 years old.
