Since its beginning in the 1960's, JSCC has dedicated itself to serving the specific needs of each of our students. Over the years, the role of community colleges has evolved from preparing students to compete in a local geographic market, to preparing students to compete in a global market. It is the responsibility of the College to provide the quality education necessary for you, our students, to compete in that global market. The information in this catalog can serve as a prism through which you may catch a glimpse into the future and the possibilities that it holds for you. From Account- ing to Viticulture, whether you are seeking a transfer degree to a four-year college, a two-year degree, a diploma or certificate, JSCC continues to provide a quality education for our students at an affordable rate. The College has developed several programs and initiatives to better serve you. A high school education is no longer enough to be competitive. Yesterday's high school is today's college. Recognizing that fact, JSCC is the parent location for the Duplin County Early College High School, where students may achieve a high school and college diploma in 5 years. An area of statewide focus in community colleges is the revitalization of career and technical education in science, technology, engineering and math-related industries. JSCC and Duplin County Public Schools have launched the Duplin Career Academy for high school students with career paths in Agribusiness, and Business and Information Technology. Reaching beyond geographic boundaries, the College continues to develop and expand its Distance Learning program providing online courses, interactive video conferencing and a combination of instructional methods (hybrid). Currently, there are nine curriculum programs that have a percentage of their course work online. In accordance with Section 73.2080(f)(4) of the Commission’s EEO rules, 47 CFR § 73.2080(f)(4), the Bureau annually audits the EEO programs of randomly selected broadcast licensees. Each year, approximately five percent of all radio and television stations are selected for EEO audits. Attached are a list of the radio and television stations included in this audit, as well as the text of the February 26, 2018 audit letter.     Communications Status Report for Areas Impacted by Hurricane Florence September 19, 2018 The following is a report on the status of communications services in geographic areas impacted by Hurricane Florence as of September 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. EDT. This report incorporates network outage data submitted by communications providers to the Federal Communications Commission’s Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS). DIRS currently covers areas of Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Note that the operational status of communications services during a disaster may evolve rapidly, and this report represents a snapshot in time. As of today, Hurricane Florence has had an impact on communications, primarily in North Carolina, and to some degree in South Carolina.
