Home Language International (HLI) Home Language International (HLI) is a family-run business offering full-immersion courses in 20 languages in over 30 countries worldwide. You stay in an experienced teacher’s home, have one-to-one lessons, enjoy three meals a day with the family and then continue to use the language during the rest of your stay. Mealtime conversation, visits, television and social contacts are all in the language you are studying. We have a dedicated expert staff in our offices including the whole of the Josephs family. Students from all over the world take advantage of our services every year.

Our language courses are designed for your needs and because you are the only student during your lessons you are guaranteed individual attention!

All of our teachers have a university degree (or equivalent) and/or a recognised teaching certificate. All teachers have been visited by one of our Local Organisers, their qualifications have been checked and their homes thoroughly inspected.

Our Chief Executive Ian Josephs M.A. (Oxford) originated the idea of living in the teacher’s home in 1979 and was the first to offer this service.

2 1 IMPORTANT • All courses are from Sunday to Sunday • Most families do not live in the city centre but in the surrounding region • Please choose 3 regions (where available) in order of preference when booking • English is available in many non English-speaking countries on request Standard Courses

• Standard course with lessons Stay in an experienced teacher’s home with full-board accommodation (3 meals a day) and choose 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 hours of private language lessons per week.

• Standard course with lessons + informal activities You can also book language lessons + informal activities (for example 10 hours lessons + 5 hours activities). Unlike our Combined Courses below (Language & Sports, Language & Culture etc.) which have the organised activities stated in our pricelist, informal activities (shopping, cinema, local visits, bowling etc.) are decided between you and your teacher after you arrive. They are a very good way to practise your language skills outside lessons. When informal activities are booked an expenses supplement of £13, €15 or US$18 per activity hour must be added to cover all expenses such as transport, entrance fees etc. for the student and the accompanying person. You must book a minimum of 5 hours of activities per week. (N.B. This supplement does not apply to the Combined Courses as the expenses are already included).

• Standard course with informal activities only It is also possible to book a programme with no language lessons and only informal activities, for example 15 hours of activities with no lessons in Manchester = £660 + £195 expenses supplement.

• Extra language lessons: £22, €40 or US$40 per hour • Extra informal activities: £22, €40 or US$40 per hour + an expenses supplement of £13, €15 or US$18 per hour (which is used to pay for any transport, entrance fees etc. for the student and the accompanying person) Combined Courses

The Combined Courses combine a language course with the organised activities below (for example sport, culture etc.) Unless otherwise mentioned all courses include: • Accommodation in an experienced teacher’s home • Full-board (3 meals a day) • Extra language lessons: £22, €40 or US$40 per hour • 10 hours of private language lessons per week • Extra organised activities on request • The stated sport, culture, leisure etc. activities • All costs (entrance fees, sports equipment hire, transport etc.)

You can also choose different Combined Courses, for example 1 week of sports + 1 week of culture etc. (though the courses should be in the same area to avoid a change of family). Important: Combined Courses are not always available all year round, are subject to weather conditions and may not be suitable for all ages. Language & Sports courses 10 hours of private language lessons per week combined (unless mentioned otherwise) with 3 private sports sessions per week of approximately 1 hour (this may be longer if you join a group of students at a similar level). Sports sessions usually take place with a professional instructor but may also be with a member of the host family (when a suitable member is available) or with the local organiser. Important: • Please remember to indicate your level in the sport on the booking form. • You must insure against illnesses and accidents to yourself or third parties. Language & Culture courses 10 hours of private language lessons per week combined with the stated cultural visits (for example visits to museums, castles and other famous places of cultural interest). Cultural visits usually take place with your language teacher but can take place with any member of the host family. If you prefer to devise your own programme in a different way from those we offer please let us know what you require and we will give you a quote. Language & Leisure courses 10 hours of private language lessons per week combined with the stated leisure activities (for example cooking, shopping, dancing, drawing etc.). The leisure activities (3 sessions of approximately 1 hour each unless mentioned otherwise) usually take place with your language teacher but may also be with a member of the host family or with a professional instructor.
