The magnificent art nouveau building is one of the architectural gems of Budapest, featuring ornaments in Moorish and Gothic style, colourful majolica tiles and sculptures. Its unique design can be admired all over the building: the perfect blend between Oriental mystique and European elegance. The original building was built in 1817 for Baron Brudern based on the plans of architect Mihály Pollack. By the end of the 19th century almost the entire building was destroyed. The plot was bought by the Bank of Savings in 1906. They hired architect Henrik Schmahl for the renovations, but unfortunately he passed away a few months before the 1817 renovations were finished so an other architect, Pál Lipták was the one who got the work done based on Schmahl’s plans.
