Will Your Feet Move To A Concert's Beat? By Lynn Hayes MANAGING EDITOR Homecoming week is a time for celebration, filled with love and laughter.lt is a time when students, faculty and alumni are reunited with their Clark College family. They partake in many fun-filled activities, ranging from parties to concerts. The intensity and vigor of the people are overwhelming. But...what happens to that vitality and excitement when the week ends and there is neither song nor dance? Is the purpose of Homecoming defeated? Many students feel that the fun of Homecoming is concealed in the “big event,” the final concert. Traditionally, the concert has ended Homecoming week. It is the last time that we are united as a family before going our separate ways. Unfortunately, the Homecoming week may come and go without a concert. According to the SGA president, only $5,200 was allocated for concerts throughout the year. It is difficult to find an affordable, well known recording artist with such a small budget. The average cost of an artist ranges from $3,000 to $35,000. These figures do not include the artists’airfare, hotel accommodations, meals or lighting and sound equipment. It is possible, though, to find inexpensive local talent but many people would be unsatisfied with their music. Nevertheless, it is a feasable idea that the Clark College family interacts to arrive at a plausible solution concerning the Homecoming concert. Let’s make this Homecoming week the best ever, with or without song and dance.
