This season we had five new Board members, Simon Smyth, Graham Edgley, Roger Price, Wal Bembic and myself. They joined Phil Lewis to make up the BDAFL Board of Management. I would like to thank them all for their contributions this year. They have been a great support to me in my first year as president of the BDAFL and I thank them for their efforts. Some highlights in the season included: Garry Burkinshaw returned as Football Operations Manager, a position he previously held in 2005 & 2006. Prme7, StarFM 104.5 Central Coast and Cougar Sportswear continued their partnership with the league whilst OPEC Systems came on board as match day sponsor for the NEAFL match On-field we had a change to the structure with the abolition of the Under 18’s competition and the Greater Sydney Junior competitions in both Newcastle and Central Coast changing Under 16’s to Under 17’s. Singleton returning to the Premier Division competition. Nelson Bay, Warners Bay and Terrigal Avoca were able to field an extra team. Overall 847 players played across 3 competitions, 10 clubs and 22 teams Christine Burrows took on the role as BDAFL Umpires Coach and made in immediate impact 46 umpires officiated across all three disciplines 44 Club Field Umpires officiated in 1st & 2nd Division matches The BDAFL Representative side led by Chris Bishop and Courtney Knight continued the leagues impressive Representative record by defeating Farrer FL in Wagga Wagga. The BDAFL hosted a North Eastern AFL (NEAFL) match between Sydney Swans Reserves and Eastlake at N0 1 Sportsground. The match was well attended with eleven (11) BDAFL players getting the opportunity to play for the Sydney Swans Reserves Isaac Heeney representing AFL NSW/ACT Rams with distinction in the National Under 18’s Championship. He was subsequently selected to receive a Level 2 AIS-AFL Academy Scholarship On a disappointing note, Wyong Lakes suffered the heartache of their clubhouse burning down. This tragedy only drew the league closer together with all clubs getting on the front foot with offers of support and assistance. The media coverage through all mediums has increased significantly this year. Our presentation evening held at Belmont 16ft Sailing club was another highlight of the year. Clubs should be commended on their support of the event and Steve Allen was, as always, a great host. Equally, the Grand Final Breakfast hosted by Newcastle City was a very well run event and I thank Mark Hope and his team for their efforts. By now some clubs will have held their Annual General Meetings and I thank those officials who have contributed in 2013 to the running of their clubs, and in turn fostering the code in our region. To those who are taking positions on club committees for 2014, some for the first time, I welcome you to the football family. Michael Gray President 5 Black Diamond AFL Inc 2013 Annual Report FOOTBALL OPERATIONS MANAGER’S REPORT 2013 season has come and gone and it is now time to review the year and prepare for 2014. I congratulate the 2013 Premiers, Newcastle City in the Black Diamond Cup and 2nd Division and Nelson Bay, who completed the season undefeated in 1st Division. Congratulations also to Nelson Bay on winning the Club Championship award. At the end of the 2012 season, Adam Lowe stood down as Football Operations Manager and I took over the role in December. I previously held the role in 2005 & 2006 before moving to run the AFL Sydney competitions for six years. With no Football Operations Manager for two months, and a significant amount of work required to reconcile the financial records the Annual General Meeting was unable to be held in November as is normally the case. The meeting was eventually held in March. A big thank you to former President Scott Harrington and our Auditors, Lawrence Rundle Rapson Pty Ltd in reconciling the financial records. Prior to this meeting, Harrington and all the existing Board Members, apart from Phil Lewis indicated that they would either not seeking re-election to the Board or would be resigning from the Board. This subsequently meant virtually a new Board would be required. At the Annual General Meeting, Michael Gray, Simon Smyth and Graeme Edgley were appointed to the Board, with Gray also taking on the role of President. In May, Wal Bembic and Roger Price joined the Board whilst one position remained vacant along with the role of Vice President.
