Fourth Sunday of Advent (Year B) Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time December 24, 2017 June 10, 2018 PASTOR’S MESSAGE | “Holy Family Church T The Good Neighbor” Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, I have asked Luke Koski to introduce himself for the benefit of those who did not meet him last weekend. He has completed two years of preRtheological studies at Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg. He will be a First Theologian in the fall. Regarding the evangelizaon project, we have to determine if any neighborhoods have “no solicitaon” policies. However, our visits would not be making solicitaons. The purpose is to introduce our parish, offer to pray for/with them, and to learn from them about our community. Please join me in prayer that this project can be undertaken. A MESSAGE FROM SEMINARIAN LUKE KOSKI Hello everyone! In case you did not worship at Holy Family Church last weekend when I introduced myself, here’s a short bio about myself. I’m from Perry Hall, Maryland, and my home parish is Immaculate Concepon in Towson, Maryland. I graduated from Calvert Hall College High School, and later received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Philosophy from Towson University. During my me in college, I was dang and discerning about the vocaon of marriage. I also spent many hours reading, praying, and talking to priests about the priesthood. A er several years of discerning both vocaons, I eventually ended up (by God’s providence) on a mission trip in Nicaragua where I “heard” Jesus tell me during Eucharisc Adoraon, “Luke, I’m proud of what you are doing, and no maer what vocaon you choose, I will always love you. You will lead your soul to heaven, as well as many others, but I’m calling you to the priesthood…” Praise God for allowing me to “hear” his silent voice in quiet prayer! My major project this summer at Holy Family, in addion to learning about parish priesthood from Father Harris, will be sharing the fruits of my evangelizaon trips to college campuses these past two years. We will be forming an evangelizaon group with those who feel called to share the Catholic faith with others, parcularly our immediate neighbors near our parish campus. Please keep an ear open for when the training sessions will begin. If you would like to get a head start on preparing for this, please read the book How to Win Friends for Christ . One Conversaon at a Time by Thomas Cavanaugh and John Love. You can buy it on an online bookseller. Join me in praying that the Holy Spirit empowers us to share the Gospel! Thank you all, and please count on my connued prayers this summer! Please pray for Father Harris and the parish staff as they connue to help form me into a holy priest of Jesus Christ! May the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always! Father Raymond Harris | Email: [email protected] | Phone: 410.922.3800, ext. 6 _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ REFLECTIONS ON THE SUNDAY GOSPEL READING Read Mark 3:20R35. “[Jesus said,] ‘But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an everlasng sin’” (v. 29). What is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? The following are stances that are freely undertaken and not repented of by the me of one’s death. Despair is the stance that one cannot be forgiven by God. This denies that the Lord has the power to save anyone who comes to Him. In fact, the grace of God is offered to all who desire to receive God (e.g., John 3:16; Titus 2:11). All can receive the forgiveness of their sins if they entrust their lives to Jesus, cooperang with Him to become holy. Presumpon is the stance that it does not maer if we repent, God will forgive us anyway. This denies the necessity of repentance, which Jesus teaches is necessary in order to believe in the Gospel and receive salvaon (cf. Mark 1:15). Impiety is the stance that one does not want to be forgiven, or does not need God, or does not believe that God exists. Note that if we are guilty of any of these sins now, it is possible to be forgiven of them when we ask God for forgiveness. Since these are grave sins, we receive God’s mercy in the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliaon. It is only if we freely refrain from repenng of these sins unl our death that our salvaon is endangered. In the Gospel reading, the Lord Jesus Christ was calling people to repent of denying the divine nature of His person, ministry, and mission. In love, the Lord warned them about the consequences of refusing to accept what He has revealed Himself to be. Catechism of the Catholic Church #1864: “’Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.’ There are no limits to the mercy of God, but anyone who deliberately refuses to accept his mercy by repenng, rejects the forgiveness of his sins and the salvaon offered by the Holy Spirit. Such hardness of heart can lead to final impenitence and eternal loss.” POPE FRANCIS’ PRAYER INTENTION T JUNE SCRIPTURE READINGS for SUNDAY HOLY MASS Universal Intenon: Social Networks “That social networks Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time T June 10 may work towards that inclusiveness which respects others Genesis 3:9R15 + Psalm 130:1R8 for their differences.” 2 Corinthians 4:13 T 5:1 + Mark 3:20R35 ___________________________________________________________________ Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time T June 17 PRAY FOR THOSE WHO ARE SICK Ezekiel 17:22R24 + Psalm 92:2R3, 13R16 Rocco Aliber, K.
