About the International Webinar

“COVID-19 is taking so much from us. But it’s also giving us something special – the opportunity to come together as one humanity – to work together, to learn together, to grow together.” -Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus Director-General, WHO

COVID-19 and the subsequent restrictions have posed a challenge to different sections of the Academia to find alternative modes of approach. One such affected domain is that of Media Studies. In order to rise to the occasion new strategies need to be formulated to ensure the continuation and progress of learning and the search for further opportunities.

Among the effects of the social separation on Mass Media, one is the sharp rise in at-home media consumption- be it news, Over-the-top platforms for movies, web series, games and social networking. On the other hand, high value broadcast content like live sports, concerts and other events are being postponed or cancelled, leading to a disruption and reallocation in advertising expenditure. This has caused a drop in profits and rising uncertainty for media companies. Many of them are trying to find new ways of reaching the consumers. This in turn leads to new opportunities being created owing to the internet’s low distribution cost and the global audience it offers. Media Companies and content providers are making an effort to ease the anxiety of consumers with relevant information. At the same time fake news and its repercussions are also getting magnified. Thus the pandemic has shortened the evolution timeline of New Media. Its positive aspects as well as the flip side are manifesting themselves faster than ever.

This International Webinar (Conference) on Future of Media Studies in the Post-COVID19 Scenario will focus on the role of Media Studies at such a time when both education and the media are undergoing a radical transformation. The Resource persons of this Conference are most acclaimed personalities representing diverse aspects of the Mass Media. These torch bearers will help the participants of the Conference to comprehend the metamorphosis in the content as well as medium of Media Studies. Through their insights and the ensuing interaction this conference shall endeavour to reiterate that every challenge ever faced by humanity, education is that light at the end of the tunnel.
