WASTE DISPOSAL

Curbside Collection Guelph has 2 collection schedules. To Determine if your street is part of Week 1 or Week 2 refer to the Curbside Collection Guide

The city collects organics, recyclables and garbage using these four carts. This is part of the city’s initiative to reduce waste and the Guelph’s carbon footprint

Green carts are collected every week, and blue and grey carts are each collected on a biweekly rotation.

All carts must be at the curb by 6:30am on your collection day (and should be put out no earlier than 5pm the night before. Please remove your carts from the curb by 7pm on your collection day.

Collection Tips

• Make sure your cart lids are • Overstuffing carts will make it able to close difficult for them to be • Ensure all items are inside the emptied. To ensure your carts carts, rather than stacked on are emptied, place waste in top or around the carts loosely

WATER

Water Treatment Drinking tap water is a great way to reduce waste. In Guelph, drinking water is tested to ensure it meets the Ontario Drinking Standards.

Our water comes from a supply which is then filtered through an aquifer. Additional safety steps are taken to protect your water as it travels to your tap

Do you know where your water comes from? You know Guelph gets its water from a groundwater sources…but what does that mean?

Lucky for us, Guelph is located above a permeable aquifer, “The Guelph – Amabel Aquifer”. It’s a geological formation made of limestone that holds our water.

The City of Guelph has conducted many studies to understand where our water is coming from so it can be protected. Avoiding contamination to the groundwater sources is a priority. Contamination can occur from improper waste disposal, septic tank leaks, urban runoff, road salts, and other contributing factors.
